THE LOWER EXTREMITIESC. Denervation1. The schedule provides only a rating for complete denervation of theperoneal nerve. Where the Alberta Guides do not provide a value for aspecific nerve refer to the AMA Guides.2. Rating partial loss of motor and/or sensory function is made using theprinciples of the AMA Guides. Refer to the AMA Guides table forspecific unilateral spinal nerve impairment affecting the lower extremityto assess percentage loss of function. If the peroneal nerve isimpaired, this figure should be applied to the scheduled rating forcomplete loss of the nerve found on page 31 of this document, usingthe following formula:% functional loss X scheduled rating for = basic rating (%)(AMA Guides)complete loss ofperoneal nerveinnervationThe basic rating obtained will be that of a partial loss of peronealfunction.The overall significance of the impairment of nerves, other than theperoneal, should be assessed using the same table in the AMA Guideswithout reference to the Alberta Guides.3. Lumbosacral plexus, spinal cord and brain injuries are capable ofproducing impairments of varying degree and type to parts of the bodybeyond the primary site of injury. Lower extremity effects from thesecauses are assessed and rated using the procedures and rulesdescribed above.D. Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD)1. Impairment rating for RSD is made, on a judgement basis, by applyingthe principles of the AMA Guides table for assessment of impairmentof the lower extremity, due to peripheral nerve disorders, to the AlbertaGuide rating of the whole limb or portion as deemed appropriate.Refer to the Grading Scheme table for pain or loss of sensation.Page 29COPYRIGHT 2006 All Rights Reserved October 1, 2006
