VISIONVISIONI. IntroductionClassified visual impairments refer to visual acuity, visual fields and ocularmotility. Non-classified visual impairments are those referred to in RatingSchedule I, page 44.Evaluation of visual impairment is based on the degree of loss of both classifiedand non-classified categories. Where vision is impaired, but not reflected in theschedules, a judgement rating is made.In order to calculate the degree of impairment caused by an injury, all relevantinformation on the pre-accident and post accident visual acuities, visual fieldsand ocular motility status must be obtained.II.Rating ProcedureCalculate the overall impairment including any pre-existing impairment based onthe following steps:A. When only one eye is involved impairment due to loss of visual acuity or nonclassifiedvisual impairment is obtained from Rating Schedule I or RatingSchedule II.B. When both eyes are involved calculate the combined rating for visual acuityor non-classified visual impairment by reference to Rating Table 1, page 46 orby use of the following formula:Combined Rating = (84/16 x rating* of the better eye) + rating* ofthe poorer eye.* obtained from Rating Schedule II, Page 45C. Calculate the impairment due to loss of visual fields using Specific Rules inRating G & H, page 42.D.
