PaymentEvery Student must submit payment, a signed Student Billwith payment method indicated, and proof of legal residence.For payment dates please refer to the Registration schedule onpage 5. For tuition, fees, and refund schedule please refer to theschedules on page 7.Payment options include cash (Middletown only), moneyorder, check, or credit card: VISA, MasterCard, or Discover card,finalized financial aid, third-party contracts, or the TuitionPayPlan. For your convenience, payment by credit card or ACHmay also be made on-line at www.sunyorange.edu/bursar. SelectPayment Options-On-Line Payment and follow the instructionsfor submitting payment. A $10.00 convenience fee is charged.Please note: the Bursar does not accept credit card payments bytelephone.The TuitionPay Payment Plan enables students to pay theirtuition and fees in monthly installments. A completed enrollmentform, $35.00 enrollment fee, and the payment due are allrequired to join the TuitionPay Plan. For plan enrollment datesplease refer to Payment Options on page…To qualify for NY resident tuition rates a student must havemaintained a legal residence in NY State for one year and in thecounty for six months immediately preceding the first day of thesemester. All NY State residents, who do not complete the residencerequirement, will be charged as a non-resident. Proof ofresidence must be submitted annually.Students, who register but who fail to complete payment or toattend classes, will incur a tuition liability if they fail to withdraw(by completing a Drop form) before the start date of thesemester.PrerequisitesA prerequisite course is one that prepares a student foradvanced courses in an academic field. Prerequisites may bewaived or substituted at the discretion of the appropriate departmentchair. A signed waiver form must be filed with the Recordsand Registration Office.Note: Course prerequisites are listed in the course catalog andsometimes as a special notation listed with a course in this bulletin.A student without the appropriate prerequisite or waiver canbe withdrawn from the course by the instructor.Repeating a CourseA repeated course is automatically identified by the computersystem. The grade and credits earned in the final attempt are calculatedin the student’s academic average. All grades remain on theacademic record. Students who receive financial aid should checkwith the Financial Aid Office before repeating a course in which aD or better grade was earned. Note: Students in Health Professionprograms who wish to repeat a professional course must receiveapproval from the department chair and file a special permission cardwith the advisor.Stop/HoldsStudents who have unmet financial obligations to the Collegeor who have failed to comply with college requirements, such asproof of immunization, will not be permitted to register, receiveor send transcripts, or provide proof of enrollment to other agencies/institutionsuntil the stop/hold is cleared with the issuingoffice. In addition, all information relating to student recordswill be withheld in accordance with the Family EducationalRights and Privacy Act.<strong>Spring</strong>/<strong>Summer</strong> <strong>2010</strong>Student ID and Parking PermitStudents can update their ID or campus parking permit by presenting theirpaid receipt at the Student Activities Office, which is located on the 1st floorof the Shepard Student Center at the Middletown Campus and in Room 223in the Tower Building at the Newburgh Campus.Visiting Student<strong>SUNY</strong> <strong>Orange</strong> welcomes students from other colleges and universitieswho wish to enroll in credit courses for the <strong>Summer</strong> term. Visitingstudents hoping to transfer credits to their home institution should seekapproval from their home institution prior to registering. Visiting studentswho need help with their course selection should call or visit theAdvising and Counseling Center.Withdrawal fromNon-Developmental CoursesDuring the semester, a student may withdraw from a course bycompleting a withdrawal (drop) form that is available at the Recordsand Registration Office with an advisor’s signature. No recordof the course appears on the student’s transcript if the course isdropped by specific dates (See Academic Calendar). Thereafter, agrade of “W” is recorded. From these dates forward, the studentwould need to do an Official Withdrawal by the appropriate deadlines(see Official Withdrawal from College section) or the instructormay initiate an Instructor Withdrawal. An instructor is notrequired to do an Instructor Withdrawal.Withdrawals are processed by the Records and Registration Officeas of the day of receipt. Please keep this in mind since refunds aregenerated from the processing date.Withdrawal from Developmental CoursesStudents who are required to enroll in developmental coursesmust remain enrolled in them throughout the semester. A studentmay request permission to withdraw and must acquire signatureapproval from the appropriate administrator (Associate Vice President,Coordinator of Learning Assistance Services or the Registrar) theirAdvisor and the Instructor in order to drop the course(s). Absencefrom class is not a sufficient reason when seeking permission to withdrawfrom a required developmental course. Students who are notrequired to enroll in developmental courses and choose to do so maywithdraw with the signature of an Advisor. (See catalog for LearningAssistance Services/Developmental Education)Official Withdrawal from the CollegeA student may withdraw from the College and from all currentsemester courses, including developmental, if he or she does so bythe deadline below. The student should discuss the decision with hisor her advisor prior to withdrawal.The student must complete the Total Withdrawal from CollegeForm and the Drop/Add Form with appropriate signatures bythe dates noted on the Academic Calendar. Exit interviews withCounseling Center staff members are required for all admitted(matriculated) students. Students who receive any form of financialaid are required to obtain a financial aid officer’s signature. Non-Degree seeking students should complete and file the forms withRecords and Registration.Withdrawal and Financial Aid AwardsStudents who receive financial aid should check with the FinancialAid Office since withdrawal from either a single course or from allcourses may affect current or future aid.85
