<strong>EPrescribing</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Electronic</strong> <strong>Transfer</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Prescriptions</strong>: an International Rev<strong>ie</strong>wHealth Information <strong>and</strong> Quality AuthorityICT systems, a gradual approach is envisaged with the opportunity being taken whenmajor upgrades to the systems are being undertaken to bring them into conformancewith the st<strong>and</strong>ards.The benefits <strong>of</strong> ePrescribing initiatives are well documented as an increasing number<strong>of</strong> countr<strong>ie</strong>s adopt the use <strong>of</strong> ePrescribing in some form. These include a reduction inmedication errors, prescription <strong>and</strong> transcription errors with a correspondingimprovement in pat<strong>ie</strong>nt safety. The aim <strong>of</strong> this international rev<strong>ie</strong>w is to present thepractices <strong>and</strong> processes adopted in other countr<strong>ie</strong>s to develop national ETP solutions.Where available, the benefits gained in each country are documented. Informationon the development <strong>of</strong> solutions in six countr<strong>ie</strong>s that are at different stages <strong>of</strong>development <strong>and</strong> harmonisation is provided.6
