6. Personnel
At the end of 2011, 764 members of staff
were employed at IFM-GEOMAR. This
means that the overall number of employees
was almost the same as in the previous
year. 50% of the employees work in the
scientific field. Women represent 46% of
the total number of staff and approx. 40%
of the scientists. The percentage of women
among the professors is still rather low, but
was increased in the course of new appointments
(see below). 72% of the employment
contracts have a fixed period; about 80% in
the scientific field. Personnel development,
subdivided into organisational units, is depicted
in Fig. 1.6.
