Committee <strong>and</strong> Project WorkDFCI/CHB St<strong>and</strong>ing CommitteesSome examples:6West Operations Committee:Inpatient care improvement team working with clinical <strong>and</strong> operations leaders to manage <strong>and</strong>improve inpatient care.Center for <strong>Cancer</strong> Care Patient <strong>and</strong> Family Working Group: Multidisciplinary committee of thenew Center for <strong>Cancer</strong> Care to <strong>design</strong> the first three floors of non-clinical areas that will servicepatients <strong>and</strong> families (e.g. lobby, cafeteria, retails pharmacy, etc.)Joint Quality Improvement / Risk Management (QI / RM) Committee: These Board of Trusteeslevelmeetings are held on a quarterly basis <strong>and</strong> are attended by the co-chairpersons of both thePediatric <strong>and</strong> Adult PFACs. This committee reviews major QI/RM issues/projects that impactpatients <strong>and</strong> families at <strong>Dana</strong>-<strong>Farber</strong>. PFAC members are asked to provide the adult <strong>and</strong> pediatricpatient <strong>and</strong> family aspects during these sessions.Pediatric Clinical Operations Group (PCOG): Outpatient care improvement team working withclinical leaders <strong>and</strong> members of the multidisciplinary team to improve outpatient care. Examples:renovations, scheduling, procedure changes.Patient/Family Communications Committee: Committee recommends policy, developsstrategies, <strong>and</strong> addresses broad issues of patient/family communications at <strong>Dana</strong>-<strong>Farber</strong> with thegoal of using communications to enhance the patient/family experience. It aims to help patients<strong>and</strong> families participate in decision-making about their care, cope with their cancer, <strong>and</strong>underst<strong>and</strong> the <strong>Institute</strong> better. Another goal is to assist staff in improving their communicationswith patients/families.Patient Safety Committee: Discussions of safe care practices, as well as efforts related to patientsafety research, education, <strong>and</strong> quality improvement.Volunteer Advisory Council: A working advisory group, which at this time meets approximatelyfour times per year. One PPFAC member attends. Usually it has been a co-chairperson, but thiscan be open to a rotating system, as well. Originally in November 2003, the purposed of thegroup was to evaluate the current stat of Volunteer Services, seek opportunities for growth <strong>and</strong>evaluate the mission to provide compassionate, well-trained, resourceful volunteers to assiststaff, patients, their families <strong>and</strong> friends.This Council consists of representatives throughout the <strong>Institute</strong>, including Nursing <strong>and</strong> PatientCare Services, Research <strong>and</strong> Administration. It is critical to have PFAC volunteers as part of thegroup.
