IntroductionMembers of the Pediatric Patient <strong>and</strong> Family Advisory Council (PPFAC) at <strong>Dana</strong>-<strong>Farber</strong>/Children’s Hospital <strong>Cancer</strong> Care (DF/CHCC) are advocates for patients <strong>and</strong> theirfamilies. We are part of the process to improve the care <strong>and</strong> service that patients <strong>and</strong> familiesreceive at our ambulatory site, <strong>Dana</strong>-<strong>Farber</strong> <strong>Cancer</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> (DFCI), <strong>and</strong> as inpatients, atChildren’s Hospital Boston (CHB). We define ourselves as liaisons, activists, communicators,consultants, <strong>and</strong> most of all, partners. We work to ensure that the patient <strong>and</strong> family perspectiveis considered when programs <strong>and</strong> policies are developed <strong>and</strong> implemented.We serve on st<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>and</strong> project committees at all levels of (DF/CHCC). We learn about whatis working well <strong>and</strong> where there are opportunities for improvement. PPFAC members play anessential role in the delivery of quality care provided to our patients. We are fully integrated inthe work of <strong>Dana</strong>-<strong>Farber</strong> <strong>Cancer</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>and</strong> our partner hospitals. From the beginning, staffhave sought the Council’s assistance <strong>and</strong> feedback on issues relating to the delivery of cancercare <strong>and</strong> treatment.The following pages describe the work of the PPFAC in greater detail.
