DirectoryAYA (Adolescent/Young Adult) Program<strong>Dana</strong>-<strong>Farber</strong> recognizes that the issues facing a young adult with cancer are different from thosefacing patients who were diagnosed earlier in childhood or later in adulthood. A team of staff<strong>and</strong> layleaders is developing resources that will leverage the world-class research <strong>and</strong> patientcare resources of the <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>and</strong> its collaborators, <strong>and</strong> are investigating ways to facilitate care,<strong>and</strong> coordinate research, training <strong>and</strong> education focused on the young adult patient population.(617) 632-2545 or aya_program@dfci.harvard.edu.Back to School Program: Treatment often involves frequent clinic visits, radiation, surgery, orhospitalization, causing most children to miss some school. For many, returning to school can bea frightening <strong>and</strong> emotional experience. The Back to School program at <strong>Dana</strong>-<strong>Farber</strong> <strong>Cancer</strong><strong>Institute</strong> <strong>and</strong> Children's Hospital is <strong>design</strong>ed to ease the child's transition back to the classroom.The program provides student <strong>and</strong> family support, classmate underst<strong>and</strong>ing, guidance for schoolpersonnel, complementary components, back to school visits, teaching tools, workshops, <strong>and</strong> theschool liaison program. (617) 355-7665 or (617) 632-3278.Bernon Family School Liaison Program: Provides education, consultation, <strong>and</strong> collaborationservices on behalf of children who have received central nervous system treatment for ALL orbrain tumors. Assists children whose cancer or cancer treatment has resulted in learningdifficulties or other problems affecting their school experience. Children eligible for thisprogram include those in the first grade or beyond who have been diagnosed with leukemia orbrain cancer. Staffed by three psychologists <strong>and</strong> a special educator, the program currently servesover 260 children in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Isl<strong>and</strong>, Vermont, <strong>and</strong> Connecticut.(617) 632-2169 or (617) 632-3209.Brigham <strong>and</strong> Women’s Hospital (BWH): The Brigham <strong>and</strong> Women’s Hospital (BWH) is a nonprofitteaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School <strong>and</strong> founding member of the PartnersHealthcare System, an integrated health delivery network. BWH provides all inpatient <strong>and</strong> someoutpatient care to patients of the <strong>Dana</strong>-<strong>Farber</strong>/Brigham <strong>and</strong> Women’s <strong>Cancer</strong> Center.Eleanor <strong>and</strong> Maxwell Blum Resource Center: Part reference room <strong>and</strong> part lending library <strong>and</strong>research site, this center <strong>and</strong> its satellite resource rooms are staffed by professionals <strong>and</strong>volunteers. Locations include the Blum Patient <strong>and</strong> Family Resource Center (<strong>Dana</strong> Lobby), thePediatric Resource Room (<strong>Dana</strong> 3), Houghton Mifflin Patient <strong>and</strong> Family Resource Room (<strong>Dana</strong>9) <strong>and</strong> Patient <strong>and</strong> Family Inpatient Resource Rooms (BWH, Tower 6 <strong>and</strong> CHB, 7W). <strong>Dana</strong>Building, 1 st floor lobby. 617-632-5570.Marjorie <strong>and</strong> Betty Ann Blum Pediatric Resource Room: Located down the hall just outside theJimmy Fund Clinic, room 305, the room is staffed by a Patient <strong>and</strong> Family Education Specialist<strong>and</strong> trained volunteers. There are computers <strong>and</strong> quiet areas available. Parent classes are offeredby the Clinical Nurse Specialist, Nutritionists, <strong>and</strong> other Specialists. Music, cooking, yoga <strong>and</strong>other classes are also available for patients <strong>and</strong> family members. Open 8:30 AM <strong>and</strong> 4:30 PM,Monday through Friday.
