Due to the recentincrease in Pertussis (also called Whooping Cough) cases and the fact that the protection provided bythe Pertussis vaccine wears off over time, all children entering 7 th through 12 th grade next year (schoolyear 2011-2012) will need to provide proof that they have received at least one Tdap booster on orafter their 10 th birthday.After the 2011-2012 school year, the requirement will be that all students entering 7 th grade provideproof of at least one Tdap booster given on or after their 10 th birthday. Please discuss this with yourchild’s health care provider and provide a copy of their updated immunization record to the schoolprior to the start of next school year. Students without proof of their Tdap will be EXCLUDED!If you have questions regarding the new requirement please contact your child’s school nurse.Information regarding the new requirement is also available on the web at www.cdph.ca.gov.The Madera Public Health Department is open for families every Wednesday morning from 8:00-10:00and every second and last Wednesday of the month in the evenings from 4:00-6:30.
