St. Bartholomew’s, Bartolovo
(24.8) The event traditionally takes
place at an old wooden house in the
Turopolje Wood. As a part of the event, performers
present shepherds’ games: prasićkanje
– a game in which one must try to push
a small potato, pumpkin, or a pebble into a
hole in the ground using sticks or rods, baltićanje
– a game in which baltice (small axes)
are thrown at a tree, nožićkanje – a game of
throwing small knives at a tree. Exhibit of
old weapons and folk costumes. A project
to preserve the autochthonous Croatian
Turopolje pig breed is also part of this event.

• “What Our Elders Ate” (last weekend in
August) – a more than 25 year tradition of
sales and exhibition, culinary and tasting
event of the City of Vrbovec. The event
presents old Vrbovec dishes, and evaluations
are made in several categories. In addition to

exhibits of paintings and handicrafts of the
Vrbovec region, and the wines of Vrbovec
wine-makers, there are also performances by
folklore ensembles and the presentation of
old social games and customs of the region.
