<strong>Toys</strong> R <strong>Us</strong> <strong>Head</strong> <strong>Office</strong> (<strong>Interim</strong>) <strong>Job</strong> <strong>Description</strong><strong>Job</strong> Title: Personnel <strong>Office</strong>r(Strmgt) Reporting To: Personnel ManagerDepartment: PersonnelLocation: <strong>Head</strong> <strong>Office</strong>Direct Reports: One part-time personnel administrator<strong>Job</strong> Purpose: To provide advice and support to Stores and <strong>Head</strong> <strong>Office</strong> Management in respect of allEmployee Relations queries. As well as delivering a full spectrum of generalist personnel advice across theCompany. This opportunity has arisen to cover maternity leave in the Department.The Company: <strong>Toys</strong> 'R' <strong>Us</strong> is the UK's most successful Family Leisure, Babycare, Multimedia and Toyretailer. <strong>Toys</strong> R <strong>Us</strong> was founded in the UK in 1985 with the opening of 5 stores and since then we have grownthroughout the UK. Our increasing range of product introductions in Babies R <strong>Us</strong>, Teentronics, Multimediaand Universe of Imagination add further dimensions to our unique customer proposition.Main ResponsibilitiesMain ActivitiesPersonnel Administration • Ensure that information is entered onto the Personnel database all storemanagement staff and that manual files are updated.• Audit the files and computer data in the Personnel Department.• Ensure that Unemployment benefit forms are completed.• Ensure that reference requests for former <strong>Head</strong> <strong>Office</strong> and Managementemployees and mortgage/rental recommendations are processed.• Produce adhoc reports from the personnel database.Employee Relations • Manage incoming telephone calls (internal and external) and face to facequeries, provide answers to queries, referring to alternative sources asappropriate.• Advise line management on all Personnel related matters includingdisciplinary and grievance, staff development, ensuring legislativerequirements, personnel policies and procedures are met and soundemployee relations are facilitated and promoted.Disciplinary and Grievance • Deal with grievances from employees and support line managers inresolving the grievance.• Prepare correspondence and responses to disciplinaries and grievances.• Where needed attend appeal meetings in the capacity as a witness andadvisory level.• Ensure the case is progressed to a satisfactory outcome.• Deal with Employment Tribunal applications and respective paperwork andpreparation for Tribunals.Management TrainingProgrammes• Ensure all store management trainee administration is completedaccurately and audit where necessary.• Ensure that references are completed for all store management recruits.• Follow up on all unsatisfactory store management references.• Sign-off store management files for alarm codes.Training Seminars • Run training courses (for Seasonal Ops managers, employment law andinterview techniques.)• Assist in production of new training material.Department Duties • Deputise for the other Personnel <strong>Office</strong>rs in their absence.• Assist Personnel Manager in the general smooth running of the PersonnelDepartment and adhoc duties as required.


Essential knowledge, skills and experience• Excellent IT literacy and PC skills.• Must have had experience working in a personnel department at officer level.• Obtaining full membership of CIPD.Skill Essential DesirableExcellent communication skills both verbal and written with aprofessional and confident manner.Sound knowledge of best practice and employment legislation.Strong team player who uses initiative and diplomacy whenliaising with internal and external customers.Able to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines and tomanage multiple priorities.Previous knowledge of recruiting and interviewing.Capable of discretely managing personnel activities.Good Attention to detailAble to travel to stores and Distribution Centre, withoccasional over night stays as and when required.Strong administrative skills and good working knowledge of MS<strong>Office</strong>.Able to demonstrate sound knowledge of dealing with a varietyof employee relations issues.Previous experience of managing staff.Strong negotiation skills.
