Basketball Mr A Baruksopulo
Last Saturday, Terrace competed against Brisbane Boys College. The BBC Basketball program has traditionally been very strong and this was
again evident last Saturday with Terrace only recording a few wins. It was encouraging to see Terrace Basketball fight to the end of every game
and be competitive in a lot of hard-fought games.
This week Terrace competes against Nudgee College with fixtures being played on both Friday and Saturday. It would be great for all basketballers
and supporters to stay around and watch the 1sts play. Please see the website for game times.
1st V - BBC hosted Terrace on Saturday and there was a good atmosphere for the game with a large BBC crowd in attendance. It was a good
challenge for the Terrace 1sts who were coming off a disappointing defeat to TGS last weekend.
BBC are one of the yardsticks for the GPS competition with a number of very experienced players. The Terrace boys would not be intimidated
however and had a strong start, making BBC realise this game would not be a walkover.
While we worked hard and would not allow the opposition to push us around, the relentless full court defence started to take its toll. BBC had too
much speed and size as well and over the course of 40 minutes this proved decisive.
The stand-out performer for Terrace was Declan Pang who is working hard and leading by example. Other players who had strong games were
Ed Brigden and Dan Anderton.
The Terrace 1st V is looking forward to this week's clash with Nudgee. The game will be played on Friday at 6.45pm in the Campbell Centre. The
guys are certainly looking forward to a large contingent of Terrace supporters in attendance. - Matt Hamilton-Smith (Coach)
Rugby Mr T Mandrusiak
Well done to all teams for their efforts last Saturday against BBC, BGS, Nudgee and ACGS. It was rewarding to come away with numerous wins
across all age groups but most pleasing of all was the way teams played their Rugby. The continual improvement within all teams is evident and
the last weekend's outstanding results were just reward for the dedication and time devoted by both players and coaches.
This weekend we play Nudgee College at Tennyson in our Round 5 games. It is truly the only day where all team get to play the same opposition
on the one day at the one venue. Please check the Sports page on the website for kick off times.
The College will be taking the Rugby photographs for the Yearbook. These photographs are an important historical record for the College.
This will be a very busy day at Tennyson and so you will need to allow more time than usual to get into the playing fields. The photograph schedule
can be found on the website.
Please note - This Saturday is the only day Rugby photographs will be taken. If your teams are not at the Rowing Shed (downstairs on the river
side), in uniform ready for their photograph at the allocated time, they will be marked as absent.
The GPS team of the week goes to the 13B team coached by Mr Matt Scanlan and Mr Mark Macklin. These boys are required to meet me at the
flagpoles tomorrow to receive their pizzas.
Attendance at training is improving however still not great. Once again: Training is not optional. If your son is unable to make training he is required
to let his coach know or contact the Sports Office.
Unimaginable, inspirational, challenges, obstacles, disappointment, triumph and childhood dreams. These terms have been used time and time
again over the last two weeks throughout the Olympic Games as athletes have given their all for their countries.
Usain Bolt in a media interview last Friday, spoke of his childhood in a suburban area of Jamaica, as he played in the streets around his home
never dreaming until recent years that he may be catapulted onto the international stage and recognised as the fastest man on Earth. Bolt reflected
that the last four years were the most challenging of his life as he struggled with injuries and self-doubt.
What is it that sets Usain Bolt, Sally Pearson, Michael Phelps and Anna Meares apart and to be called legends? Each has suffered disappointment,
challenges and failures. Each of these athletes also has had the sheer determination to overcome every obstacle in front of them and subsequently
triumphed.
This Saturday, a challenge presents itself like no other. The traditional Terrace v Nudgee rugby clash every year provides an amazing spectacle
of rugby, sportsmanship and school spirit. Terrace hasn’t felt the feeling of victory over our greatest rival since 2004. Many people ask what
makes Terrace/Nudgee such a huge occasion on the school calendar every year. It’s not that it is a game of Rugby, it’s 121 years of shared history
that represents the foundations of our school and how Terrace got it’s colours, which makes this Saturday such a huge day in the lives of all
Terrace students.
Whatever challenges come your way, whether they are on the footy field, on the basketball court, or in the classroom, dig deep within and find that
same grit and determination that will be present this Saturday at Tennyson. The result may not place you on a podium but the satisfaction of
knowing you gave it your all will be just as satisfying.
