Tennis Mr G Brimblecomb Week 3 saw our teams record their first whitewash of the season. Our teams 1 – 4 all scored resounding wins against Iona while teams 5 – 8 all scored big wins against St Pats. Teams 1 and 5 have recorded their first wins for the season with good wins over quality opposition. The doubles work we have been concentrating on in training has really paid off with only one doubles set being dropped for the day. Our overall results were: Team 1, 40 - 14; Team 2, 40 - 4; Team 3, 40 - 2; Team 4, 31 - 25; Team 5, 40 - 7; Team 6, 40 - 7; Team 7, 40 - 16; Team 8, 40 - 9. Our better individual performances came from Mitchell George and Charlie Van Balen with a 14 – 0 and Ed Baker, Ned Aylward, George Campbell, Hudson Mulcahy and Ben Wilson- Boyd with 14 - 1 win/loss ratios were our best performers for the day. These boys are really putting some pressure on the year level best percentage players. For those who don’t know, I am recording the win/loss ratios of each player each week and will come up with a best win/loss percentage for the season. Congratulations to our teams of the week. Teams 2 and 3 again share the honours and the Friday pizzas. This week we are on a bye. However there is still plenty of Tennis to be played with our Age championships being contested on the Ekka Holiday Wednesday. Congratulations to Pat Morris who reached the Junior Masters final on the weekend at Churchie and Harry Rackemann who narrowly lost in his quarter-final match. Track and Field Mr C Humphrys CIC - Congratulations to all the boys who competed in the annual College Age Championships on Saturday morning. There were some fantastic results seen and recorded as boys from Years 5-7 fought hard and fair across three of their best events. In Year five we saw two boys who couldn't be separated even through our countback system. Tom Burns and Aymeric Morgan finished joint Under 10 age champions while Zac Boland and Jacob Ruff took out the Under 11 and 12 competitions respectively. This week we travel to Mt Gravatt (QSAC) for the annual Junior Schools Competition. With the first event scheduled for 8am, it is important athletes arrive by 7.30am for their warm up. Please check the website for full details. The program for this week is very different to previous weeks. GPS - One week to go! The GPS season kicks off officially next Friday night (24 August) with Terrace hosting the first invitational meet of the year. The Grand Prix events are the hurdles, 200m, 800m and triple jump events, so it is important we fill those events with our best athletes in order to defend our title from 2011. Again, the program is available on the website and through the student booklet. On Wednesday, 29 August, we will be taking our four best sprinters from each age group out to UQ to commence our relay training. Current Brisbane Bronco and Old Boy, Lachlan Maranta, will be running these sessions. Athletes will return by 5.30pm. See you on the track. Gymnastics Mr B McCulloch Terrace Gymnastics has been in full swing for the past couple of weeks. The season officially started with group training at BBC on Saturday 21 July when all GPS gymnasts were taken through all the apparatus by coaches and judges. The following week, Terrace completed against BBC at BBC where all Terrace gymnasts in Divisions 1, 2 and 3 completed and achieved impressive scores. Last weekend, Terrace competed at BGS against TSS and TGS. Again, the results were impressive and a number of our gymnasts improved on their previous results. This weekend, Terrace will compete against BGS at BBC. I would remind gymnasts of the need to arrive at least half an hour prior to the commencement of the competition and to wear their correct uniform. A reminder that the GPS Championships will be held at The Southport School on Saturday, 1 September. The first competition will be the Division 3 competition, commencing at 8am. While it is a long day, it is a most enjoyable and entertaining day for both competitors and supporters alike. Challenge Program Introducing "The Simpson Prize" Terrace is proud to announce that we will be submitting three entries for this prestigious competition this year. Students who have received an A for their History result last Semester have been invited to participate in this competition. Students are expected to write an essay or create an audio-visual presentation of their understanding of primary sources and the Gallipoli experience in response to the ANZAC legend. Meanjin Writers Camp This is a unique experience for gifted writers to work with published authors to improve their writing skills. It is open for students in Years 6, 7 and 8 and will occur in week 4 Term 4. There is a detailed application to complete with writing samples and costs to cover the event. Terrace Ladies Group Saturday 18 August is a big day at Tennyson with the official Blessing and Re-opening of Tennyson and Terrace playing Nudgee. We require your assistance please with both the official re-opening in the morning and the canteen. The Re-opening function is from 10am to 12.30pm and the canteen will be open from 8am until 3.30pm. Just half an hour or an hour of your time would be greatly appreciated. If you can assist with either of these, please email either contact below. Thank-you to the mothers who undertook the Year 12 etiquette classes. The boys would have been well prepared for their formal.
