UonnellaFOR BEING CHOSEN THE 2012 "IRISHMAN OF THE YEAR"BY THE FRIENDLY SONS OF ST. PATRICKWHEREAS, Michael P. Donnelly was born on July 26, 1940 in Jersey City, N.J. He was eldest ofthree boys born to Kathleen Feehan Donnelly and Michael Donnelly Sr. Their grandparentscame from County Down and County Cork; andWHEREAS, Michael (Mike) Donnelly, a lifelong resident of Jersey City, is a graduate of St.Aedan's School and Dickinson High SchooL. He also attended the New York Institute for Finance.At the age of 18,he worked as a messenger on Wall Street. Mike passed the New York StockExchange (NYSE) Series 7 exam in 1965 and became a full time financial consultant in 1973.Mike currently represents Morgan Stanley Smith Barney as First Vice President/WealthManagement; andWHEREAS, . Mike Donnelly is one of the original members of the Project Children Dance inJersey City and Bayonne which has raised over $50,000 to bring boys and girls from Ireland toNew Jersey for summer vacation and is involved with the Mass for Peace in Ireland held at St.Aedan's Church each year before the Jersey City St. Patrick's Day parade. Mike also assists theSt. Patrick's Day Irish festivals in Jersey City and on the State leveL. In 2001, Mike served as theGrand Marshall of the Jersey City St. Patrick's Day Parade. He is a 36-year member of the JerseyCity Elk's #211, and served as the Exalted Ruler in 2001-2002. He is currently the Head Trustee.Mike was also a member of the South Hudson Spikeworked St. Nicholas Church Bingo for many years; andShoe Club and Ho Ha Running Club andWHEREAS, Mike Donnelly married Nancy Faherty in 1968. She departed this life in November2011. He is proud of his sons Michael and Brian, daughter-in-law Jennifer and granddaughtersAmanda and Madeline; andWHEREAS, on Friday, March 2, 2012, The Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick wil host its Annual Irishman ofthe Year Dinner at Puccini's Restaurant in Jersey City. Mike Donnelly has been a very active memberof the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of Hudson County for 36 years. He served as theorganization's President during the years 1998-2000 and wil be honored as this year's"Irishman of the Year."NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Municipal Council of the City of Jersey Citydoes hereby congratulate Michael P. Donnelly for being chosen the 2012 "Irishman of the Year"by the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick.
