Types of ChartFigure 3–15: Pie Chart Showing Two Data Series as Multiples3.1.8.2 plotByThe plotBy attribute controls how Zen generates a pie chart from the data provided. You may actually providemultiple series to the . The chart processes all the data series to create one series, and then displays that seriesas slices in the chart. plotBy options are as follows.• "items" – plot a slice for every item in this chart's data.• "series" – plot a slice for every data series in this chart's data.• "both" – plot a slice for each item within each data series, which means that the chart contains seriesCount * seriesSizeslices.• "auto" – automatically select the appropriate way to display data based on how many data series and items are present.Pie Charts by ItemsWhen the value of plotBy is "items", a plots one slice for every item within the data series. If you providemultiple data series to an "items" pie chart, each slice of the pie represents the total of a particular item, summed across allof the data series in the chart. The following conceptual figure shows how five data series, each containing eight items, would generate an eight-slice piechart. Each slice represents the sum of the five values for that item in each series.Using Zen Components 67
