Extended FamilyBy Corinne Peterson, Volunteer Services ManagerI am always so impressed by the heart and spirit of volunteers: the abilityto think past their own needs and comfort levels, and to sacrifice theirtime in a hundred different ways, all for the benefit of others.Because of this interaction, we have the opportunity to spend qualitytime learning about each other’s families, interests and needs. We laugh,we share, we live, we love.This community is aware of the value it receives from volunteers. Asextended family, volunteers are instrumental in providing their best. Wein turn provide our volunteer family witha “thank you,” a meal together, wellnessthrough participation in workouts, swimming,classes and other campus programs.Cross Keys Village provides many of thesame amenities to our volunteers as toteam members: car maintenance, inoculations,shuttle service around the campus,banquets, and educational sessions. Justas family protects, encourages, strengthenseach of its members, we want to providethis same level of love and care, making usall the best we can be.84,578.642,307.0086,885.641,072As a manager, I have the privilege of hearing from both sides. It touchesmy heart to hear the stories of how we helped provide direction to a teensearching for a career path; how a child without the benefit of grandparents,connected with a senior and experienced the wonder of compassion,patience, and life experience; how a person struggling with theharshness of life obtained confidence. “I feel safe here, I made friends,I have purpose.”How can you not be touched when people tell their stories of gainingmore than they’ve given?
