Contributions to society<strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong> <strong>Group</strong> is at the centre of society and, where it can,contributes to a healthy social climate. In its achievement offinancial, social and environmental goals, <strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong> <strong>Group</strong> isfully alert to the demands and needs of our neighbours. Duringtheir work it is expected that all <strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong> <strong>Group</strong> employees willobserve the standards and values set down by <strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong> <strong>Group</strong>in a Code of Conduct. The code of conduct can be found on thecorporate website.Moreover, as market leader in the graphics and communicationsindustry in the Netherlands, <strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong> <strong>Group</strong> also seeks toutilise its knowledge and expertise in the interests of society atlarge, which it does in a number of different ways.Putting knowledge into actionVia the industrial organisationsBoth the Netherlands and Europe have active, industry-wideassociations, working on developments in the graphics industry.<strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong> <strong>Group</strong> makes a significant contribution, both at homeand in the European graphics industry.Some of the causes <strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong> <strong>Group</strong> and its employees contributedto in this way are:- MVO Nederland, partnership- Het Koninklijke Verbond voor Grafische Ondernemingen (RoyalGraphics Industry Association)<strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong> <strong>Group</strong> is represented on:- The management of the employers’ organisation.- The body (chair) that negotiates the graphics media collectivelabour agreement with the trades unions.- The Environmental and Working Conditions Committee KVGO/Kartoflex. This committee deals with environmental andhealth & safety issues for all members of both organisations.- The Comfortable Collective Labour Agreement steeringcommittee.- The Health & Safety catalogue working group.- ROGB (Graphics Media Industry Negotiating Council)<strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong> <strong>Group</strong> is chairman of this, the highest decisionmaking body in the graphics industry and:- Chairs the Collective Labour Agreement- Chairs the committee studying pensions- A and O FundThe A and O fund is concerned with the labour market and training.<strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong> <strong>Group</strong> is represented on this graphics mediaindustry fund’s board.- VNO-NCW<strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong> <strong>Group</strong> is represented in a number of regionaldivisions such as the Urban Triangle Region, where they sit inthe innovation network.- Representation in local / regional organisations- Deventer Employers’ Circle and Environmental Circle- Delegates to the HR and F&E committees in the DeventerEmployers’ Circle- Deventer Docklands Business Interests Foundation- Weert Gatekeeper Centre- European <strong>Roto</strong>gravure Association (ERA)<strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong> <strong>Group</strong> is represented on the Board of the internationalorganisation for the rotogravure industry.- The ‘Environmental Health & Safety Commission’. Theobjective of this international Commission is to guide andcontribute to the environmental, health and safety aspects ofthe European Graphics Industry and the European rotogravureprinting plants in particular.- The ERA Task Force, a working group that studies all aspectsof environment, health and safety for the graphical industry.The <strong>Group</strong> also functions as a sounding board for theEuropean Commission in its work to draft an EU Ecolabel forprinted publications.- The Paper Committee, which is working on the standardisationof technical properties of paper types and communicatingsolutions to paper problems. Moreover, the Committeeinforms its members about new developments among thepaper suppliers.- PRN (Paper Recycling Netherlands)<strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong> <strong>Group</strong> sits on the board of PRN, to which a numberof industry associations are attached, making joint agreementsto maintain high-quality collection and recycling of used paperand card and where possible to increase it.- MediaPartners <strong>Group</strong> is actively involved in Smin (SponsoredMedia Institute of the Netherlands), the central organisationfor the producers of relational media in the Netherlands. Thisorganisation is dedicated to safeguarding the interests of itsmembers and provides training, conducts research and seeks toincrease general support.Smin organises master classes, an executive course, and initiatesjoint (international) research and the Customer Media Awards.In 2009 MediaPartners supplied a lecturer for the Smin Masterclass.A member of the jury was supplied for the CustomerCSR 14 <strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong> <strong>Group</strong> <strong>2011</strong>
