The group is an international association of graphicsindustry central organisations. The association exists to draftand distribute process specifications for optimum graphicsworkflows.- ECI (European Colour Initiative)<strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong> <strong>Group</strong> is a member of the ECI web offset workinggroup, which develops and distributes guidelines for themedium-independent makeup, processing and exchange ofcolour data based on ICC colour management.- PrintArena.nl<strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong> <strong>Group</strong> actively supports the central website for alltechnical supply-side information for printed media. Print Arenais a joint initiative of CMBO, Cebuco, ZSO, KVGO and the DutchPublishers’ Association.Print Arena’s goal is to make knowledge and information accessibleto the creative industry, ultimately to increase the userfriendliness of the printed media.The information issued by Print Arena is chiefly concerned withcurrent standards and specifications in the creative industry.Education and Training- MediaPartners <strong>Group</strong> is registered as a training company withSavantis, the knowledge centre for professional training. Thetraining given is as media Designer (Graphics Designer), andDesigner of advertising, presentation and communication(Advertising and Publicity design).- Technology week aims to increase interest in technical careersamong the young. <strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong> Deventer was one of the firmsorganising guided tours during an Open day on 9 April <strong>2011</strong>for pupils in <strong>Group</strong> 7 of junior school. A group of enthusiasticvolunteers ensured the event’s success.- Also in <strong>2011</strong> <strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong> Etten and <strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong> Deventer organiseda number of excursions and guided tours for educationalinstitutes, for both teachers and pupils in junior high school whohave to choose the next step in their education. Visitors alsocome from the Regional Training College, intermediate leveltechnology students, as well as from those in practical education.Work experience places are also offered.- <strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong> Deventer and the Mid-Netherlands RegionalTraining College, VAPRO and temporary staff agency Timingstarted a new training course in the print shop. This is a BBL/VAPRO competence development course leading to an OperatorB qualification. This was an integration of <strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong>’ ownprofessional training with a regular, nationally recognised MBOcourse. This means that over time <strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong> Deventer willhave available young, qualified operators, while the employeesare offered an opportunity to follow a different career outsidethe graphics industry.- <strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong> Deventer creates opportunities for groups thatexperience difficulty on the job market. <strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong> Deventerworks with Sallcon in this area and supports people who needhelp to find work, such as the long-term unemployed, thehandicapped and school leavers. By offering an employmentcontract to unemployed people on social security, Sallcon getsthem off welfare and detaches them to <strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong> Deventer(among others) to work in Afterpress or other departments. Thecollaboration with Sallcon is inspired by both business-economicand social considerations.SponsoringPrinted media<strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong> <strong>Group</strong>, alone or in association with a paper supplier,regularly makes its printing capacity available to socially relevantprojects.Annually, <strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong> <strong>Group</strong> also sponsors publicity for breastcancer by contributing to the production of Pink Ribbon Magazine.<strong>Roto</strong> <strong>Smeets</strong> <strong>Group</strong> <strong>2011</strong> CSR 15
