Family Expressions—And What We Mean by ThemPlease note: By listing these expressions we are not suggesting you need to use these in yourconversations or classes with your outside flock. We are merely trying to draw your attention toexpressions that are fairly common in our conversation, so that you can be aware of the need toeither explain what you mean when you use a certain expression, or in many cases it might bebetter to re-phrase what you want to say. Anyone who is around Family members often will likelyat some point hear one or more of these expressions, so having explanations for them on handwill hopefully be of help to you. (For more advice on this subject, please see “Watch Your Words,”ML#2849, by Maria.)Some of these terms will be explained in the Bridges course, as they will need to be understoodwhen someone starts reading more advanced Family pubs.A few of these expressions may also be used by other Christians but still be unfamiliar to mostpeople.General ExpressionsA-ACs–Anti-Antichrists: Those opposing the agenda of the Antichrist, even though they maynot be doing this from a Christian standpoint.ACs–Anti-Christs: Those who are following the agenda of the one world government of theAntichrist.All by faith: When you’re walking by faith, trusting in the Lord, even when you can’t see a logicalsolution or maybe even don’t know what you’re looking for.Big Lie, The: Evolution. (From ML#736, “The Big Lie Exposed”)Check: To have a strong feeling about something, by the Lord’s Spirit. Often used when talkingabout a bad feeling or warning of a problem or danger, or being reminded of something youwouldn’t have thought of otherwise.Fleece: See Judges 6:36-40. One of the last ways of finding the will of God.Graduated: Besides the regular meaning of this word as in passing a course, “graduated” is also aterm we use for those who have passed on or died.Green Shirt: To “don your Green Shirt” means to be honest, even about very personal matters.(This expression originated with ML#629, “The Magic Green Shirt.”)Have a burden: To desire to do something.In the victory/have the victory: To be happy, to be at peace with the Lord, to be content.Let Jesus shine: To maintain a cheerful composure, even if you’re not feeling so happy.Let your light shine: From Matthew 5:16. To be a good sample and use your talents to glorifythe Lord.Matthew 9:29: “According to your faith be it unto you.” Commonly used to encourage othersthat the choice in a certain matter is theirs, however the Lord leads them.New Bottle: Someone willing to change and try new things. (Originated with the verse Matthew9:17 “Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runnethout, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.”)Family Expressions<strong>12</strong>9
