Class Placement, Additional ActivitiesClass Placement: Sunday, June 23All students will take a placement audition class on Sunday,June 23, when students are divided according to ability intoapproximately 25 different levels from B-1 through E-4. The timeof your placement class will be in your check-in packet uponyour arrival to the Program. Students arriving late to the Programwill be placed in a temporary level based on applicationmaterials until they can be assessed by the appropriate staff, atwhich time they may be moved if necessary. Currently enrolledCPYB students and students registered for Level A are notrequired to take a placement class. The division of students into levels is based solely onability, not age. Based on the placement class, students areplaced in the level where it is felt they will benefit the most.Placement factors include technical achievement and the natureof individual needs observed in the class. For instance, studentsof about the same level with similar body placement challengesmay be assigned to one class to enable the teachers to concentrateon the correction of those specific needs/challenges. Normallythere are students of a broad range of ages in each class. Manylevels, in fact, represent only small differences in ability, and acertain level this year may be much more or much less advancedthan that same level of the previous year. The levels are taughtaccording to the ability of the students in the level and notaccording to a certain syllabus for the level. After the beginning of the Program, changes in class placementare always initiated by CPYB 5-Week Summer Ballet Programteachers—never by the student or their parents. On the rareoccasions when adjustment in level is warranted, a change willbe made as soon as possible.Additional ActivitiesIn addition to the regular ballet classes, the Residence Staff willhave fun and educational activities planned for the majority ofevenings and weekends.
