Improved fallow systems in the Luang Prabang area, Lao PDR – an analysis based on farmer experiencesConclusionsConclusions• The cropping, systems introduced by the SCRP in 1992 and by FAO/UN DP during theeighties are largely present in altered forms. Leucaena is the main surviving species from theexperiments.• Crop data collected through interviews indicate an increase of yields after introduction ofimproved fallow, although statistical uncertainties exist. Species combinations includingLeucaena give higher yields than combinations without. Leucaena also have a higher survivalrate than Pigeon Pea and grasses.• In the farmers opinions the introduction of leguminous species in the fallow improves theiryields compared to the yields after traditional fallow.
