Special Education ServicesSpecial education services are provided for all eligible students. Students withprofound disabilities receive services at Abingdon High School. Currently at PatrickHenry, fourty-seven students are receiving specially designed instruction to meet theirneeds. Services are determined by a committee, which includes the parent and, ifappropriate, the student. Physical PlantPatrick Henry High School opened in the early 1960’s and remains in goodcondition. Several additions and modifications have been made within the last fiveyears. A new coal furnace has been installed as well as air conditioning. Stadiumfacilities have been improved with the addition of new baseball and softball fields forathletics. A batting cage was also added to accommodate these sports. The track andfield facilities remain in good condition which enables Patrick Henry High School to hostmany track and field events such as the Inter-Mountain Relays and the Judy ThomasInvitational. The home seating section wall and handicapped facilities were improved atthe football stadium in summer 2003. The visitor seating section was completed asection wall and improved handicapped facilities in Spring 2004. A canopy wasinstalled over the west wing of the building connecting the agricultural and shop facilitiesto the main building. New shrubs and landscaping were planted around the frontentrance by the horticulture and DECA departments. Some upgrades have been madeto the changing and storage areas in the boys and girls locker rooms.The school division Six Year Plan of Improvement indicates that maintenance onfacilities will be upgraded on a regular basis. Future goals for the operations andfacilities of schools are: (1) to complete existing projects from previous plan; (2) toprovide handicapped access and identified entrances; (3) to develop a long rangefacility plan based on identified needs; (4) to establish cycles for replacing and/orrefurbishing buildings and/or equipment; (5) to continue to evaluate facilities in order toprovide a safe environment for all students and employees.11
