Congress Condemn Terrorist AttackAyodhyaNEW DELHI: Condemning the terrorist attack at Ayodhya on 5July, the Congress said it was clearly designed to inflamecommunal passions. Congress urged the people to maintain calmand criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party for trying to politicizethe incident.Expressing the nation’s gratefulness to the paramilitary forcesfor foiling the terrorist attempt, the Congress said it always treatedsuch incidents as a threat to the secular fabric of the country,and acted in the best interests of the country’s integrity and unity.The Congress Media Chairpersons, Smt. Ambika Soni said thatthe nation is grateful that our para-military forces have once againproved their mettle and foiled the attack of terrorists at Ayodhyaand thereby prevented a serious situation being created. Acts like thishurt the very soul of India. The perpetrators of this act are enemiesof this country and society,” she said.Smt. Everyone should unite and stand like a rock against thedivisive forces so that their evil designs were throttled and theycould not rear their ugly heads again.Smt. Ambika Soni. ❖Do Not Politicise Attack: PMNEW DELHI: Condemning the militant attack on “the disputedsite” at Ayodhya as an act of terrorism, Prime Minister, Dr.Manmohan Singh on 5 th July mobilized government resources toensure that “communal harmony, peace and public order” weremaintained, especially in view of the Bharatiya Janata Party’splan to organize nationwide protests.Soon after the attack, Dr. Singh cancelled his trip to Gujarat to␣␣assess flood damage and summoned the Cabinet Committee onSecurity. It was decided to alert the State Governments toincrease protection and security at religious places, securityinstallations and monuments. He spoke to Uttar Pradesh ChiefMinister, Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav and offered all help in copingwith the aftermath of the incident.After a late night meeting of the Cabinet’s Political AffairsCommittee, Dr. Singh described the attack as one aimed at“destabilizing our society and polity.” He said “the Governmentis determined to deal firmly with all such acts␣ ” and “there willbe no compromise on terrorism. Let there be no doubt on thisaccount in anybody’s mind.”According to Defence Minister, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, at theCCS meeting Dr. Singh expressed the hope that the incident wouldnot be politicized.There is satisfaction that the security forces acted effectivelyand foiled the attack. The Government’s thinking was bestreflected in Mr. Mukherjee’s statement: “We have been able toprotect the place, and all the attackers were killed. The CRPFwas in the inner circle and they ensured not a single attackerwas allowed to escape.
