Gandhi said that education and health have special placein our Common Minimum Programme, which is the agenda ofthe UPA Government.Continued from Pg 27but significant fact is that after loosing power in the Assemblyelection held in 1988 the former chief minister and veteran triballeader of CPI-M, Shri Dasarath Deb had raised the demand forextension of Article 370, of Constitution of Tripura in a seminarat Delhi in the year 1989. It is another matter than the demandhad been raised quite ignorantly without any knowledge of thehistorical background in which Article 370 had been incorporatedin the Indian constitution. The fact however, remains that themindset of the CPI-M leadership is tuned only to electoralconsideration. Mysteriously, for only electoral gain, during theAssembly election 2003 they took a stand like “Amra Bangalee”a parochial Bangalee organization in the state only to woo theBengali vote, as a political imperative as they realized they areunable to retain the hold over the tribal support.Author is vice president, Tripura PCCJuly, 2005Congress Sandesh29
