INSTITUTE OF ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS - Annual Report 2002eksperymentalnego Kontrolera Modulu TrygeraMionowego RPC; technika embedded);participants: Krzysztof Pozniak Ph.D.,Wojciech Zabolotny Ph.D.. Embeddedtechnology is tried for application in theconstruction of TriDAQ board. The board isresearched for applications in the CMS Triggerprogramme.[Pro.53] Jan Dorosz, Professor - Head of the grantNo 4-T08D-22, 2002-2004, “Optical Fibreswith Ring Cores”, (in Polish - Swiatlowodypierscieniowe), Principal releaser: RyszardRomaniuk, Ph.D. Ring index optical fibres areinteresting for photonics sensory, functional andinstrumental applications. The major researchaims are: theory of particular sub-types of ringindex optical fibres realizable practically by thegrant performers using modified multicrucible,rod-in-tube and hybrid technologies, technologyof ring-index optical fibres with µm sizerefractive features, measurements of ring-indexoptical fibres, indications for applications ofring-index optical fibres.[Pro.54] Danuta Zuchowska, Professor, WroclawTechnical University – Head of the Grant No 7T08E 03520, March 2001-October 2003,"Polymer Materials for Optoelectronics”, (inPolish - Polimerowe materialy dlaoptoelektroniki), participants from the Instituteof Electronic Systems: Kazimierz Jedrzejewski,Ph.D., Lech Lewandowski, Ph.D. The task ofthe grant is to make polymer fibres for opticaltransmission. The IES will measure geometryand attenuation of these fibers.[Pro.55] Stanislaw Jankowski, Ph.D., MariuszWierzbowski, Ph.D. Student – participation inthe grant realised in the Instytut TechnologiiMaterialów Elektronicznych, Warsaw,Wólczynska 133, head of the project – MichalPawlowski, Ph.D., “Intelligent MeasurementSystem for the Investigation of DefectCentres in Semi-insulating Materials”, (inPolish - Inteligentny system pomiarowy dobadania centrów defektowych w materialachpólizolujacych). The main goal of the project isto perform a new intelligent measurementsystem for the investigation of defect centers insemi-insulating materials. The system is basedon a dedicated hardware. It implements the ideaof artificial intelligence paradigms as neuralnetworks and support vector machines. Aneural network method has been proposed as anew algorithm for the extraction of defectcenters parameters in semi-insulating materialsfrom experimental data obtained byphotoinduced transient spectroscopy (PITS).The new algorithm is applied to investigation ofirradiation-induced defect centers in highresistivity silicon. The folds on the PITSspectral surface formed due to the presence ofdefect levels are best fitted with a twodimensionalapproximation function withimplementation of the NN learning process. Asa result, the Arrhenius plots for defect centersare obtained and the parameters of these centersare determined.[Pro.56] Wojciech Zabolotny, Ph.D., WojciechZaworski, M.Sc.– participation in the grant No7 T11E040 20, head of the grant – JerzyJurkiewicz, D.Sc., Centrum MedycynyDoswiadczalnej i Klinicznej Polish Academy ofSciences, “Assessment of IntracranialVolume-Pressure Relationship with CT ScanAnalysis, Transcranial DopplerMeasurement and Computerized InfusionTest”, (in Polish – Ocenawewnatrzczaszkowych zaleznosci objetosciowo- cisnieniowych za pomoca analizy obrazówtomografii komputerowej TK, pomiarówprzezczaszkowej ultrasonografii dopplerowskiejPUD i skomputeryzowanego testu infuzyjnego).[Pro.57] “The Usage of Electronic Transactionsfor Safe Remote Access to the Dean OfficeDatabase by Means of a ComputerNetwork”, Krzysztof Antoszkiewicz, Ph.D. –Head of the project granted from Dean’sstatutory funds, (in Polish – Badaniemozliwosci zastosowania transakcjielektronicznych w obsludze studiów istudentów). The main goal of the project was tofacilitate safe remote access to the faculty(deans) database by means of a computernetwork. The method of remote identificationand authorization by means of the localcertificate was developed. The architecture ofthe PKI structure at the Faculty of Electronicsand Information Technology was designed. Thebasic applications of the electronic facultyidentity card utilizing local certificate weredeveloped. New organisation of the batchprocess of issuing the local certificate wasproposed. The faculty database was preparedfor remote access for registration of candidatesfor enrollment of new faculty students and theprocedure was implemented for the 2002enrollment.[Pro.58] Research co-operation of RyszardRomaniuk, Ph.D. with Professor Jan Dorosz,Technical University of Bialystok: “MulticrucibleTechnology of Soft-glass Tailored- 40 -

Theresearch on specialty soft-glass optical fibers iscontinued within this research and technicalproject. The investigated fibers are singlemodeand multimode, single circular core, noncircularcore, multicore special-material, etc.The fibers are researched from the point of viewof their potential applications for photonicfunctional components like: switches, couplers, and insulators, nonreciprocal, unilateral.- 41 -
