Sweden is a modern, safe and eco-conscious country with a great global reputation and<br />
one of the world’s highest living standards.<br />
Home of the Nobel Prize, the world’s most prestigious academic distinction, Sweden<br />
enjoys great <strong>international</strong> respect for innovative and creative thinking and for encouraging<br />
close cooperation between academia and industry. Lund University counts four<br />
Nobel laureates among its alumni.<br />
Sweden has more large <strong>international</strong>ly leading companies<br />
per capita than any other country. Several of the<br />
biggest and best know trademarks worldwide are Swedish:<br />
IKEA, Ericsson, Volvo, Tetra Pak, ABB, H&M,<br />
Atlas Copco, Astra Zeneca, SKF, Absolut Vodka and<br />
Saab to name a few. Popular cultural brands include<br />
ABBA, Astrid Lindgren’s Pippi Longstocking, Björn<br />
Borg, Ingmar Bergman, Greta Garbo and Stieg Larsson’s<br />

A PROUD TRADITION OF INNOVATION<br />
Sweden has a proud tradition of innovation and entrepreneurship<br />
with a long series of discoveries and ingenious<br />
inventions: Alfred Nobel’s dynamite, the zipper, the safety<br />
match, the Celsius thermometer and the Hasselblad camera,<br />
among others. Information and communication technology<br />

tant emerging industries and these are also the strongest<br />
fields of activity at Ideon Science Park, located in Lund.<br />
Sweden is located in the Scandinavia region of Northern<br />
Europe. By size, Sweden is one of Europe’s largest<br />
countries, comparable to Spain or France. But in terms of<br />
population it is small and has only 9 million inhabitants.<br />
The Swedes have developed a form of society that fosters<br />
equality, cooperation and democracy in every aspect<br />
of life, including the workplace. Equal rights are based in<br />
law and firmly rooted in practice. All forms of discrimination<br />
due to ethnic background, colour, religious beliefs or<br />
sexual orientation are forbidden by law.<br />
English is the unofficial second language in Sweden.<br />
With 89% of the population fluent in the language, you<br />
can get by with English throughout the country. It is<br />
widely spoken and for some companies it is also the official<br />
working language.
