InJapan and Saudi Arabia, it is 0.00percent implying that drivers are alreadyconsidered legally impaired with just asip of alcohol. The Philippines lagsbehind other countries in that we still donot have a BAC limit.Getting the BAC levelAs part of its campaign against DUI,AAP donated two digital alcohol breathanalyzers to the University of thePhilippines-Philippine General Hospital(UP-PGH) in 2008 and another to thePhilippine National Police – HighwayPatrol Group in 2010. The digital alcoholbreath analyzer is used worldwide toidentify instantly the BAC level of aperson. Unlike doing blood or urine tests, using the digital alcohol breath analyzeris practical and produces immediateresults in roadside situations.Ideally, the individual that will betested should not smoke, eat or drink 20minutes prior to testing. Otherwise, thedigital alcohol breath analyzer’s sensormay be damaged or give a wrong BAClevel. The digital alcohol breath analyzerhas a mouthpiece or breath pipe intowhich the driver blows. After a fewseconds, the result is displayed. becausethe alcohol a person drinks can bedetected in his/ her breath due to itsabsorption from the mouth, throat, stomach and intestines into thebloodstream. The analyzer automaticallybeeps and displays a red light when theBAC reading is over 0.05%.Drinking responsiblyAAP advises motorists planning toget a drink or two to always have adesignated driver who will refrain fromdrinking and is sober when it is time todrive home. If there is no designateddriver, it is better to not bring your carand just take a cab to go home.By campaigning for the speedyestablishment of a BAC limit and theIRR, AAP hopes to make roads safethrough the enforcement of the DUIprovision.According to the AlcoHAWK PRO brand of alcohol breath analyzer, each BAC level has varyingeffects on a person as follows:BAC0.020 % - 0.039 %0.040 % - 0.069 %0.070 % - 0.99 %0.100 % - 0.129 %0.130 % - 0.159 %0.160 % - 0.249 %0.250 % - 0.299 %Dose-Specific EffectsGenerally no loss of coordination.
