Now, during the digital era, science tells us
Pluto isn’t a planet. It’s either an asteroid, a planetoid
or comet. No longer the ninth, no longer the dark
pearl at the end of the strand of planets, Pluto wobbles
in its elliptical orbit, wavers out of alignment as we lose
faith in it. Science reveals, tells the News,
that triceratops never even existed. Don’t be juvenile.
The tri-horned reptile was an adolescent torosaurus.
All things must measure up, skulls and insect wings and stones.
Pluto the asteroid, intent on making its point, is aiming for us.
An off-the-record expert states it’s headed straight for the Mall
of America’s food court. Through the skylight, the decorative
rubber plants sway in the glazed summer light. While we graze
on a Cinnabon, we look up just in time to see
the stony face, the furious eyes.
