The smell of the sea, the sea breeze,the crashing of the waves as they reach ashore. Timelessmemories. Here is an A-Z of towns with some of the bestbeaches the county has to offer.BudeSummerleaze BeachSummerleaze is a wide, sandybeach that is sheltered by theimpressive breakwater, making itparticularly popular with families.Another gem is the sea poolnestled at the foot of the cliffs.Crooklets BeachCrooklets is at the north side ofBude and can be reached by ashort walk over the SummerleazeDown, or down the hill from thetown centre.Cape CornwallPriest’s CovePriest’s Cove is to the west of CapeCornwall. It is a tiny fishing covedominated by cliffs. The Cape andcove were donated to the NationalTrust by the Heinz food companyin the 1980s.ProgoA small, pretty much unknownbeach with interesting rock arch,close to the end of the Cot Valley.Rocky, sandy beach suitable forsunbathing.Porth NanvenA local treasure nestling in CotValley is an idyllic spot to get awayfrom it all. At low tide a sandy,secluded cove is exposed.FalmouthGyllyngvase BeachFalmouth’s largest beach is a finecrescent of sand popular withfamilies. There is disabled accessand dogs are banned during thesummer. The deeper points on thereef edge are full of squat lobstersand crabs.Meanporth BeachAn attractive east-facing beachof sand, set between smallheadlands, which give goodshelter. The beach gently slopesand has shallow water which isgreat for children.Swanpool BeachA great beach which has quite areputation for watersports. Youcan hire kit and get tuition fora range of activities includingsailing, surfing, coasteering,windsurfing and kayaking.Castle BeachA small shingle beach at high tidebut plenty of interesting rockpools to be found at low tide.HayleHayle TowansThis expanse of beach is whatmakes up most of the three miles.At low tide all the Hayle beachesjoin up.GwithianThis section of beach is anexcellent place to come for theday with the family although it isvery exposed. During the summerit is worth noting that care mustbe taken when swimming as therecould be rip currents.GodrevyThe Hayles beaches end atGodrevy Point, with the viewout to sea dominated by theGodrevy lighthouse which was theinspiration for Virginia Woolf’snovel To The Lighthouse.The LizardKynance CoveA very popular and scenic coverevealing lovely golden sandat low tide. One of the mostbeautiful coves in Cornwall.Church Cove BeachA small but popular beach reachedvia a long country lane leadingoff the A3083 from the centre ofLizard town.
