11. TROUBLE SHOOTINGPROBLEM CAUSES SOLUTIONSHeating inefficient during the firstcombustions. Lack of draft.Improper adjustment of thebarometric damper (opened toowide). Chimney flue restriction (toolong. 90 o elbows)Adjust the damper, minimize thesmoke pipe length and use 45 oelbows.Furnace burns well, warm air plenumis very hot by there is not much heatcoming out in the room.Improper installation of the ducts,low static pressure, unbalancedsystem (too many warm air outletsand not enough cold air inlets).Rearrange the ducting to respect theminimum static pressure of 0.20 in.w.c.Furnace consumes a lot of wood.The thermostat which controls thedamper is continuously activated oris too close to a source of cold air.Damper not properly adjusted.House not insulated enough. Ashdrawer is not tightly closed. Furnacetoo small for the surface to beheated. Unbalanced ventilationsystem, very little heat where thethermostat is located.Relocate the thermostat. Adjust thechain that links the damper to theservo-motor. Rebalance theventilation system in order toincrease the air flow in the roomwhere the thermostat is located.Fan start-up is too slow.Fan “ON” setting too high. Return airis too cold (temperature lower than65 degrees). Limit control not welllocated on the furnace.Lower the temperature starting point.Usually, the limit control is set at 150degrees, we can under certainconditions, reduce this temperature.Reduce the fresh air flow. Relocatethe limit control.A lot of creosote, moderate heatoutput.Wet wood, lack of draft. Barometricdamper not properly adjusted.Sooted up chimney.Use dry wood. Adjust the barometricdamper. Clean the chimney, fluepipe and the furnace exchangers.Furnace heats a lot but the warm airplenum does not get hot.Wet wood or low grade wood. Nostatic pressure. Unbalancedventilation system.Use dry wood.
