obh.mailMy name is Sophie Grant and I am in year7 at OBH. I am writing to you to see if youwould be able to help me with my fundraising idea for the school astro.I love cooking and I thought it would be goodidea to collect recipes from pupils, friends, family and staff of OBH and create a recipe book, the profits of whichwill go to the astro fund. The book will be called ‘The GastronomicalCookbook’.It will be about 100 pages long, with some colour pictures. I am hopingit will be a book that everyone will want to buy. The book will cost £10and I would like to raise at least £1000 for the astro fund. The bookwill be available in June.If you would like to take part, please send me your favourite recipe andgive me permission to use it in my book. You could also say a fewwords about why you like it. If you want to send a photo of thefinished dish or of you making it that would be great. My Mum and Dad are helping me and we have set up a simple website. The website, www.thegastronomicalcookbook.com, explains a little moreabout this idea and has information on how to give your recipeincluding providing a template for sending it via the website and asection for pre-ordering your book. By pre-ordering your book thisgives us a good idea how many we need to publish. All contact detailsare also on the website if you have any questions.I hope to hear from you soon.Thank you very muchSophieOld Buckenham HallBrettenham, Suffolk, IP7 7PH | tel: 01449 740252 | email: office@obh.co.ukwww.obh.co.uk

obh.mailOakham U12 Netball TournamentASTRONOMICALRUN—BE THERE!Monday 3.00 pmBoys’ Hockey 1st VII7 intrepid girls represented the school at theOakham Invitation Netball Tournament. With asquad of only 7 girls, including 2 novice Year 6’s, thiswas always going to be a tough day. However, not tobe daunted, the girls gave it their all. They narrowlylost to Oakham 5-4 after a round of very tightumpiring. The girls gained bonus points for scoringmore than half the winning total, so all was not lost.In the second game against Royal Latin they playedwith commitment and determination, winning by 6goals to 3. In the final game of the morning weplayed St Faiths and once again played with sheergrit and hunger, with Freya, Mia and Sophiecourageously throwing themselves all over the court. We won this exciting game 4-3 coming back from a 2-nil deficit. At the end of the morning we could notbelieve it: we had won our group and qualified forthe Cup Semi final. So off to lunch for a well earnedrest and nourishment (for the parents and staff anyway!).Our tired limbs and small squad rather got thebetter of us in the last 2 matches of the day and inspite of all our efforts, it was not to be. The teamcame away with no cup, no medal, but plenty of pridein their performance and a superbly well deserved4 th place and a real sense of achievement and hopefor the future.A great day and much enjoyed by all.TeamMia Derrick (Capt)Freya HarrisonSophie GrantPaula MunozMilly PrykeFrancesca HughesFaith Bahar1 st VII Finish off the season as joint3rd in the CountryThursday was a special day for the 1 st VII as theyplayed in the National IAPS Hockey Finals. The longjourney down meant a late arrival in Glastonbury onWednesday night but the excitement was high aswe arrived at Millfield Senior School to see 20 verystrong hockey playing schools. The day started perfectly with wins in the groupstages against Beeston 4-1, Lambrook 2-1 and TheDowns 1-0. This meant a last group game againstBrandeston and in a superb game a 1-1 draw meantthat OBH were second in the group on goaldifference which set up a quarter final in the maincup competition against Millfield. Two years ago atthe U11 Nationals a 1-1 draw in the group stageshad allowed Millfield to go on to win the tournamentand the OBH team were determined it was going tobe a win this year. The team played with greatspirit and 0-0 at full time meant golden goal extratime which saw the team score an excellent goal tosecure a place in the semi-final. Another fantasticgame with Gresham’s ended 1-1, even after goldengoal extra time, so it was down to penalty flicks andluck ran out as we went down 2-3 on flicks. This was a performance of the highest standardand one which the team can be extremely proud of.So close to the National Finals and the best placethat the school has ever finished. Throughout thecompetition, from the regionals to the finals theteam did not lose a game and silver ware was onlymissed by the narrowest of margins. The boys support for one another during the highsand lows of the days was wonderful to see andsomething that is so special at OBH. Theencouragement from the parents who made the longjourney helped the team so much and the seasonends with many memories to take away of someoutstanding hockey.Old Buckenham HallBrettenham, Suffolk, IP7 7PH | tel: 01449 740252 | email: office@obh.co.ukwww.obh.co.uk

obh.mailOakham U12 Rugby SuccessCongratulationsNick Drake reports:On Sunday 3 rd March I had the pleasure of takingten U12’s to the Oakham tournament. The festival isalways well attended with sides that we don’t usuallyplay on our circuit. For once we had ideal conditionswith some sunshine, a cool breeze and some wellmanicuredsoft pitches. Perfect for open runningrugby! In our group, where, Royal Latin, Winchester House,Lincroft and Stoneygate. We beat Royal Latin 32-12 but then came acrossWinchester House who eventually went on to win themain competition. We had our chances against thembut were not clinical enough in their ‘hot zone’ so welost the game 21-0.Lincroft where next and they managed to squeezeout a fortunate win against us but we then pickedourselves up to play some super rugby in our lastgroup game against Stoneygate to win 21-7.We came runners up in our group which meant thatwe were put into the Vase competition, whichcomprised of a semi-final and a final. We knew thatwe had the played the best teams in our group stagesso were quietly confident (or I was at least) that wehad the weapons in our armoury to deal with theopposition. In the Semi-finals we played St.Anselms and despitethe weather taking a turn for the worst we werefocused and fired up. We ran out winners beatingthem 28-14 and playing some fantastic running rugbywith all the boys working well together. In the final we met Cundall Manor who had beatenus in the final two years ago. We were all certainthat this was not going to happen again. They hadtwo flyers on the outside who had scored all theirpoints, but we had a plan to deal with them. The boys played some brilliant, intelligent andphysical rugby. Our drift defence worked well notallowing Cundall Manor to gain any territory andwhen they made a mistake we pounced scoring atevery opportunity. OBH won the game 28-7 playingthe best sevens on the day.I was very proud of the boys, they gelled well as ateam, not letting their heads drop at any point andwere very determined to give their best. Well doneto all the boys it was a real team effort.Try scorers:Freddie Whitelaw 8 (15 conversions)Harry Pertwee 3Harry Brett 4Alex Routledge 1Alex Gordon 2Old Buckenham HallBrettenham, Suffolk, IP7 7PH | tel: 01449 740252 | email: office@obh.co.ukwww.obh.co.uk
