You will work in small groups.Remark: This course together with <strong>BSC</strong> <strong>1085</strong> provides the foundation for an underst<strong>and</strong>ing of thehuman body. Most students taking this course plan a career in health care. To anyone planning towork in the health field this class will be the background to a deeper underst<strong>and</strong>ing about yourself<strong>and</strong> your patients. A patient’s life or health may depend on whether you know what you are doing.Additionally, this class will provide the necessary background for other professional courses thatrely on anatomy <strong>and</strong> physiology. Therefore, learn as much as you can in this class. You willbenefit from it. We will physically meet six times (Orientation <strong>and</strong> five labs). The syllabusshows you the topics of the labs. You are expected to come prepared tothe labs having reviewed <strong>and</strong> bringing the lab manual by Manis, Bohm<strong>and</strong> Snyder.2. There are two practical in-class exams. Topics are shown in the syllabusabove. You are held responsible for all items listed in the “Structure Lists”.3. Your online workload is outlined in the respective column of the syllabus<strong>and</strong> specified in the TASKS, which you find in MyHCC. Since we meetonly every other week, you should use time in between meetings tocomplete the online work associated with that time period. <strong>BSC</strong> <strong>1085</strong> <strong>Hybrid</strong> <strong>Lab</strong> Syllabus – Dr. GermrothGrades:Your structure recall, underst<strong>and</strong>ing of procedure, <strong>and</strong> science backgroundof the relevant topics is assessed in the lab exams. This course is mainlyassessing “rote memory” of structures! Be prepared!• Your grade is determined by the two practical exam results <strong>and</strong> youronline practice. Your exams count 45% each for a total of 90% of yourfinal grade. Your submitted evidence for practice counts 10%.• In the practical exams all questions are “timed”. There will be multiplechoice <strong>and</strong> “fill in”/short answer type questions. You will experience stress<strong>and</strong> therefore need to know the structures well in order to do well.• Note that being late to a lab or leaving early may result in missinginformation or skill sets or having insufficient time to do the assignedpractical work.• Spelling counts! (Countless patients have suffered harm from healthpersonal misspelling or mixing up terms, units of measure etc...)• There will be no extra bonus work beyond what is described in thissyllabus. You are expected to master the assigned material.• All exam results, the earned points for practice <strong>and</strong> the calculatedfinal result will be posted in MyHCC.• Letter grades are based on the calculated total percentage <strong>and</strong> areassigned in the following manner:A= > 90%B=80-89.5%C=65-79.5%D=60-64.5%F= less than 60%<strong>Lab</strong>-Safety: At all times you are asked to follow the instructions given by theinstructor. Follow the safety rules as h<strong>and</strong>ed out <strong>and</strong> discussed in the firstmeeting. If any procedure is unclear to you, ask the instructor before youproceed. Behavior that endangers the safety of others or self will not be tolerated<strong>and</strong> will lead to an immediate exclusion from the lab. Note that you must informthe instructor immediately if there is any damage to the equipment or injuryto you.
