HOW TO SELECT THE CORRECT STEAM HOSE ASSEMBLY1. Determine Required Hose SizeThe hose size required is usually fixed by sizeof fittings or pipe to which the hose is to beconnected. It is important that you do not selecta hose with inside diameter larger than thediameter of the preceding pipe.2. Find Actual Rated Working Pressure andTemperatureTake pressure and temperature readings justahead of the hose connection.3. Determine Condition of Steam (Saturatedor Superheated)Locate the actual Rated Working Pressure andTemperature on the steam chart on previouspage. Any point on the heavy line is saturatedsteam.4. Select the Correct HoseFrom the table at right, select the hose that fulfillsthe requirements of both the condition ofthe steam and the Rated Working Pressure.5. Determine Length RequiredLength required is almost always dictated bythe application.6. Select Couplings RequiredGates recommends interlocking* andpermanent crimped types of couplings forsteam hose applications. These are identifiedas:14 Interlocking, ground joint15 Interlocking, washer joint76 Permanent CrimpedSteam Hose Couplings*Remember to retighten bolts on a regular basis.7.
