The Economic Development and Continuing Education Department provides lifelong learning opportunities forall ages within the communities that <strong>Western</strong> <strong>Nevada</strong> <strong>College</strong> serves. Students in continuing education programs develop skills, enjoy creative orrecreational pursuits, and broaden personal knowledge.ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CENTERTraining Services for EmployersThe Economic Development Center delivers education and trainingto businesses, government agencies, and non-profit organizations todevelop employees' job skills and build effective organizations.Instruction is tailored to an employer’s specific needs. Whether itinvolves supervision, industrial safety, customer service, computerapplications, Spanish for employees or supervisors, or another areaof skill development, training can be delivered when and where it fitsthe organization’s schedule. Flexibility and affordability are the keysto the operation of the Economic Development Center.Employers may also advertise job openings on the free online JobBoard. Classes such as drawing or painting, cooking, crime sceneinvestigation, dancing and scrapbooking allow young students to exploretheir creative side. Classes may also include Babysitting Certification,CPR, math games, pet care, or landsailing. All classes focuson developing personal skills, building self-confidence and establishinga sense of responsibility.www.wnc.edu/ce/cfk/SPECIALTY CROP INSTITUTEThe Specialty Crop Institute is an innovative education program forcurrent and future small scale farmers, as well as students and professionals.Experienced farmers and industry experts teach alternativefarming methods, business fundamentals and more. Workshopscombine classroom and on-farm learning experiences to expand andfoster the success of sustainable small farms. Studentsmeet for two weeks of classroom training, followed bytwo weeks of driving on a skills course and over the road. The center offers students a placeto study, relax and have a good time. It includes:• Fitness Center • Game room/pool tables • Internet Cafe• Television lounge • Student government offices • Study areasSTUDENT ID CARDSStudents obtain college ID cards at the student center information desk.FITNESS CENTER/ACTIVITY STICKERStudents need a WNC student ID card, must enroll in a minimum ofthree credits and purchase a $20 activity sticker each semester to use theFitness Center. Pay for the activity sticker in the Business Office, andtake the receipt to the student center information desk to receive a validsticker. Valid WNC ID with current activity sticker is required for theFitness Center.
