The arrestswere a response to the creation of a prov<strong>in</strong>cial strategy to combat <strong>child</strong> <strong>porn</strong>ography.Many sexual offenders trade crime <strong>porn</strong>ography images like sports fans might swap baseball cards,police said.Despite the high numbers, police said studies show they suspect that 19 of 20 cases of <strong>child</strong> sexualabuse <strong>in</strong> Canada go undetected.S<strong>in</strong>ce the strategy was put <strong>in</strong>to place by the prov<strong>in</strong>cial government <strong>in</strong> August 2006, there have been4,782 <strong>in</strong>vestigations, lead<strong>in</strong>g to 1,983 charges aga<strong>in</strong>st 634 people.Fant<strong>in</strong>o used the press conference to push for a cross-Canada sexual abuse registry to help people fightthe victimization of <strong>child</strong>ren by <strong>child</strong> <strong>porn</strong>ography on the Internet."The Internet knows no boundaries," Fant<strong>in</strong>o said.With files from The Canadian Press
