The <strong>Eu</strong>ropean Environmental Bureau (<strong>EEB</strong>) is a federation of over 140 environmental citizens’ organisationsbased <strong>in</strong> most EU Member States, most c<strong>and</strong>idate <strong>and</strong> potential c<strong>and</strong>idate countries as well as <strong>in</strong> a fewneighbour<strong>in</strong>g countries. These organisations range from local <strong>and</strong> national, to <strong>Eu</strong>ropean <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternational.<strong>EEB</strong>’s aim is to protect <strong>and</strong> improve the environment by <strong>in</strong>fluenc<strong>in</strong>g EU policy, promot<strong>in</strong>g susta<strong>in</strong>abledevelopment objectives <strong>and</strong> ensur<strong>in</strong>g that <strong>Eu</strong>rope’s citizens can play a part <strong>in</strong> achiev<strong>in</strong>g these goals. <strong>EEB</strong> st<strong>and</strong>sfor environmental justice <strong>and</strong> participatory democracy. Our office <strong>in</strong> Brussels was established <strong>in</strong> 1974 toprovide a focal po<strong>in</strong>t for our members to monitor <strong>and</strong> respond to the EU’s emerg<strong>in</strong>g environmental policy. In2004, <strong>EEB</strong>, work<strong>in</strong>g with the <strong>Mercury</strong> Policy Project/Ban <strong>Mercury</strong> Work<strong>in</strong>g Group, launched the ‘Zero <strong>Mercury</strong>’campaign.Health Care With<strong>out</strong> Harm <strong>Eu</strong>rope (HCWH <strong>Eu</strong>rope) is the <strong>Eu</strong>ropean branch of an <strong>in</strong>ternational coalition ofhospitals, medical professionals <strong>and</strong> environmental organisations work<strong>in</strong>g to transform the healthcare sector,with<strong>out</strong> compromis<strong>in</strong>g patient safety or care, so that it is ecologically susta<strong>in</strong>able <strong>and</strong> no longer a source ofharm to public health <strong>and</strong> the environment. The coalition has offices <strong>in</strong> Arl<strong>in</strong>gton, Brussels, Buenos Aires <strong>and</strong>Manila with over 470 members <strong>in</strong> 52 countries.The Zero <strong>Mercury</strong> Work<strong>in</strong>g Group is an <strong>in</strong>ternational coalition of over 80 Public <strong>in</strong>terest non‐governmentalorganisations from more than 42 countries from around the world formed <strong>in</strong> 2005 by the <strong>Eu</strong>ropeanEnvironmental Bureau <strong>and</strong> the <strong>Mercury</strong> Policy Project.
