Waller wasused primarily as a bruising short yardageback last season, along with Brandon Wardand a number of other backs.Under center will be sophomore BlakeRose. The sophomore was a key componentin last season’s come from behind victoryagainst Fairland, the game that sparked Tolsiato a degree of success.Rose has shown considerable growth overthe last year and is expected to showcase hisimprovement. One player that Smith is excited about issophomore linebacker Jennings Holland.Holland is a fast, tough defensive threatwho saw some playing time last season. He’ll be anchoring a solid “Orange Crush”defense that kept the Rebels in the gamelast year.“Defensively, we’ll be fine,” Smithsaid. The only real question mark, accordingto Smith, is his offensive line.“After all the time practicing, the line isstill the question,” he said, “If we can hold2012 RESULTS:Scott, L 28-6Point Pleasant, L 40-2Fairland (OH), W 12-9Herbert Hoover, W 46-7Tug Vallely, L 18-14Sissonville, W 14-7Mingo Central, L 22-20Wayne , L 49-6Chapmanville, W 40-32Poca, W 32-14REBELSsome blocks and get on some people, I thinkwe’ll be fine.“I’ve been stressing to the kids that withour offensive scheme, we don’t have todrive people off the ball, all we have to dois just hold our blocks long enough to givethe quarterback time or long enough for theback to hit the hole.“We’re just inexperienced. In our scrimmageswe started four sophomores and afreshman.“That might be the difference betweengoing 7-3 or 6-4, – or any other record.”All-State and All-Conference linemanGrady Fannin anchored a line that provedto be tougher than many expected. With as big a question mark as to the stabilityof the offensive line, there are some whoare understandably nervous about Tolsia’sprospects this year. All will be made clear with the seasonopener this Friday at Pioneer Field when Tolsiafaces off against Wayne at 7:30 p.m.“When we play Wayne, it’s always a bigdeal,” Smith said, “And with it being the firstgame of the season, everyone has had timeto prepare for it.“It’ll be some good football.”It will be the continuation of the onlyWayne County rivalry still in existence onthe high school level.TOLSIASenior Football Schedule1 08/30/13 07:30PM A WAYNE2 09/06/13 07:30PM H MINGO CENTRAL3 09/13/13 07:30PM A SISSONVILLE4 09/20/13 07:30PM H HERBERT HOOVER5 09/27/13 07:30PM H TUG VALLEY6 10/11/13 07:30PM A ROANE COUNTY7 10/18/13 07:30PM A SCOTT8 10/25/13 07:30PM H CHAPMANVILLE9 11/01/13 07:30PM A BOYD CO., KY H.S.10 11/08/13 07:30PM H POCAMike SmithTHEY’VE GOT SPIRIT, HOW ‘BOUT YOU? – The 2013 Tolsia Rebels’ cheerleadersare: Kabrina Brewer, Jordan Presley, Kaitlan Conn, Kerri Lahoda, Jayme Vanhoose,Megan Williamson, Sara Fitzpatrick, Charlee Hill, Amber Ledson, Michaela Messer,Justin Thompson, Mckenna Blackburn, Whitney Ferguson, Santana Fitzpatrick,Savannah Fluty, Megan Perry, Sydne Stanley.
