EVEN BRAKE
DIAGNOSTIC FLOW CHARTS
FOR
SERVICE TECHNICIANS
After the initial installation, the motorhome monitor text message may indicate a low battery, or it may read “Not operational …,” or the motorhome
monitor may not function. A component may be mis-wired, or the monitor may not be programmed to the ICX transmitter. Use the three flow charts
below to identify and correct the cause of the monitor messages, or to program the motorhome monitor.
(Before beginning an installation, always follow the installer’s checklist in the owner’s manual (on page three). The checklist identifies vehicle-specific
components, features or towing procedures which may disrupt power to Even Brake, and the devices/methods to restore it. The most recent manual is
available at www.roadmasterinc.com, under ‘Support.’)
MOTORHOME MONITOR
DOES NOT FUNCTION
MOTORHOME MONITOR
READS “NOT OPERATIONAL …”
LOW BATTERY INDICATION
AT THE MOTORHOME MONITOR

1. If the monitor does not function at
the motorhome, move the monitor to
the towed vehicle for a short range test.
If the towed vehicle does not have two
12-volt outlets, use another 12-volt power
source, such as a jumper box.

1. Push the button with the right-hand arrow on the
motorhome monitor, to scroll to the second message.

2. If the second message
is “Brake pedal is
depressed …”

2. If the second message
is “No brake light
switch detected …”

1. With the ignition key in the ‘tow’ position,
test the ICX power connection for 12
volts — first, ground a test light at the
same point as the ICX transmitter (i.e., at
the white wire). Then, test for 12 VDC+ at
the red wire (the power connection) coming
from the fuse to the ICX transmitter.

2. With Even Brake plugged in and ready
to be tested, press the “Test” button.

3. The LCD text
message at the
monitor is “Test
is good — System
ready.”

4. Call the techn
i c a l s u p p o r t
department at
800-669-9690.

3. The LCD text
message at the
monitor is “Even
Brake.”

3. Check the positioning
— with the ignition
key in the “tow” position,
push the “Test”
button. The air cylinder
will extend and retract
three times. Verify that
there is no current at
the #1 terminal on the
ICX transmitter when
the air cylinder is retracted,
and 12 VDC+
when the air cylinder is
extended.

3. Verify that there is 12
VDC+ at the terminal
marked “1” on the ICX
transmitter, when the
towed vehicle’s brake
pedal is depressed.

2. Check to see if the vehicle has an ‘automatic
shut down’ feature, or if fuses
must be removed prior to towing, both of
which may cut power to the connection(s)
you have chosen — refer to the owner’s
manual, or to the manufacturer.

4. Program the
motorhome monitor
to the ICX
transmitter. Refer
to “Program
the monitor” in
the Even Brake
owner’s manual.

4. If you have 12
VDC+ at terminal 1,
call the technical support
department at
800-669-9690.

3. If you have 12 VDC+, verify that the
voltage is above 10.5 amps. Using a
voltmeter, test the vehicle’s battery, the
12-volt outlet, and the red wire coming
from the fuse to the ICX transmitter.

4. If the positioning is
correct, call the technical
support department
at 800-669-9690.

4. If the volt- 4. If the voltmemeterregister
