4Evaluation SystemThe <strong>National</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Open</strong> <strong>Schooling</strong> has certain features in its evaluation system such as freedomto answer the questions in Public Examinations in any one <strong>of</strong> the scheduled regional languages,although the Question Papers supplied would generally be in English and Hindi/available Regionalmediums only. Intimation letters and Certificates have scanned photographs <strong>of</strong> the learners and theinformation about Examination Centres and results are made available on the NIOS website. Besides,NIOS has been doing innovations in the evaluation system to maintain its credibility and standards. TheOn Demand Examination System at Secondary and Senior Secondary level for the registered canditatesis one such innovation.4.1 Public ExaminationsThe Public Examinations are held twice a year in the months <strong>of</strong> April-Mayand October-November on the dates fixed by the NIOS. However, you arealso eligible to appear through On Demand Examination at Secondary Leveland Senior Secondary level in those subjects only in which you have takenadmission in NIOS.(a) Registration for Public Examination for admission through Onlineunder Stream 1NOTEUnless examination fee ispaid within theprescribed dates, you willnot be allowed to appearin the examinations.To appear for the NIOS examination, you must register yourself by filling up the Examination Formand paying requisite examination fee as given in Table 7 as per schedule given below through your AI.(i)(ii)For April-May Examination:• 16 th December to 31 st December• 1 st January to 10 th JanuaryFor October-November Examination:• 16 th June to 30 th June• 1 st July to 10 th July(Without late fee)(With late fee <strong>of</strong> Rs. 50/- per subject)(Without late fee)(With late fee <strong>of</strong> Rs. 50/- per subject)NOTEThe ExaminationForm is attached withthe prospectus. Also aphotocopy <strong>of</strong> thismay be used forsubsequentexaminations. It canalso be obtained free<strong>of</strong> cost from your AIor download fromNIOS website.You can also register online for Public Examinations. The examination fee can be paidthrough credit card (Master or VISA) or Debit Card (VISA only <strong>of</strong> selected bank) orthrough Bank Draft drawn in favour <strong>of</strong> “Secretary, NIOS” payable at the concernedRegional Centre (Appendix 'D') within a week from the date <strong>of</strong> the submission <strong>of</strong>Online application form.(b) Provision for registration with consolidated late feeAfter the prescribed dates, you still have the opportunity to register yourselfby paying the requisite examination fee along with consolidated late fee <strong>of</strong>Rs. 800/ -.
