Marotta, MDPatients all want the same thing - to look and feel better about themselveswith as little “down-time” as possible, at the lowest cost, andwith the least discomfort. In the past, facial surgery, while always recognizedas the most effective means of looking younger, was typicallyassociated with prolonged recovery, discomfort and a high cost. This isno longer the case. Facial surgery has evolved to meet the demands oftoday’s busy and discriminating patient. In my practice, I offer a numberof minimally invasive options that provide amazing results with shorterprocedure times, quicker recovery, little to no discomfort and at lower cost than traditionalfacial surgery. I call these procedures the EZ-Liftand EZ-Lift Eyes andEZ-Microfat transfer.Facial aging is a complex transformation involving areas including thebrow, upper eyelids, lower eyelids, cheeks, jawline, and neck. The amountof aging people have in these areas varies greatly based on anatomy, genetics, and facial/neck fat. If the brow and cheeks/lower eyelids havedrooped or deflated, the EZ-Microfat transfer can help restore a youthfulfullness to the face. EZ-Lift Eyes corrects sagging skin and bags in theupper and lower eyelids. The EZ-Lift, like a traditional facelift, diminishesjowls, folds, and the dreaded “turkey gobbler” in the neck. These E-Z Lift procedures can bedone alone or in combination to address most of the problems in facial aging. In general, EZ-Lift procedures have a quicker recovery time because the areas of surgery aresmaller and shorter incisions are utilized. Also, time in surgery tends to be much quicker thanmore extensive lifts. These adaptations translate into less bruising and swelling, less postoperativediscomfort, and shorter “down-time” away from work or recreation. Because EZ-Liftprocedures utilize some of the same plastic surgery techniques adapted from “full” lifts, theyhave significant longevity and offer long lasting improvement in appearance.Good AdviceEZ-Lift procedures havea quicker recovery time…[and]… are performed underlocal anesthesia.advertisementEZ Lift procedures are attractive to many patients because they are performed under localanesthesia in the office while the patient’s awake. Despite the fact that today’s anesthetics arevery safe, some patients are still afraid of “going to sleep.” With E-Z Lift procedures, localanesthesia (numbing agent) is delivered via simple injection using fine needles to the entiresurgical area so no pain is felt – it’s similar to what you’ve received at your dentist’s office. Inaddition, light oral sedation may be given to relax the nervous patient. Patients find the experienceextremely tolerable including those who claim they are “afraid of needles.”Since there are a lot of other procedures and practitioners out there who offer some versionof “mini” facelift surgery, all with varying names, here’s some good advice to help you withyour decision if you’re considering a mini-lift.1. Pick the surgeon, not the procedure: A surgery is only as good as thetalent and expertise of the surgeon who is performing it. Have a consultationwith a surgeon who can correctly diagnose and treat the problem thatis bothering you. Look at the surgeon’s results and credentials – chooseonly a board certified surgeon. A facial plastic surgeon is someone who isdual board certified and specializes in plastic surgery of the face. Talk toother patients who have had surgery with the surgeon performing yoursurgery.2. Don’t believe the hype: Be wary of infomercials, “factories” and overly commercialofferings that promise miracle results and no recovery. Any mini-lift is surgery, after all,and even non-surgical procedures have some form of recovery.3. Be realistic: Not everyone is a candidate for smaller or mini lifts. The reason more extensivefacelifts exist under anesthesia is because they offer the ability to do more. You maynot get the results you were looking for with a smaller procedure if you have excessivedrooping. To see E-Z Lift Before and After Photos, visit www.MarottaMD.com or call 631-982-2022To advertise: 516-505-0555 x1 or ads@liwomanonline.com LONG ISLAND WOMANApril 2012 23
