Moss, who logged 29 minutes in her first collegiate game, steppedup big for the Gators with her all-around play, but it was the play of many new Gator faces thatcontributed to the solid 22 point victory. Vicky McIntyre and Kayla Lewis led the Gators in scoringwith 12 each, while it was Moss who controlled the boards and led all players with her 10 rebounds. It was very much a team-effort on the court Friday as all nine players who dressed outrecorded at least three points in the scorebook. For Moss, her nine assists not only led the team, but it was the most for a Gator in her debut since Sarah Lowe recorded six against Lamar on November24, 2002. For Amanda Butler, who also held the debut assist record with Lowe, it was alsoher 99th win as the Gator head coach in her career, putting her one shy of the century mark. The new-look Gators got a quick start from some of their new faces early in the game.Moss scored the first Florida points of the season after scoring on a put-back of her own shot, butFairfield actually held the early lead before the first break in the game.Florida started to get warm after a turnaround jumper from McIntyre followed by a steal anda fast-break layup by freshman Chandler Cooper to give the Orange and Blue the 6-5 lead, its firstlead of the game going into the first media timeout. The Stags had a hot hand early on going up byas much as six through the first five minutes, but UF started to find its shooting touch just before themidway point of the first half and went on an 11-0 run to re-take the lead at 20-15 with 10:10 to goin the first half. During that run, freshman Carlie Needles also got her first points as a Gator with athree-pointer from the right wing off a nice assist from Cooper. Those points were then followed byanother three-ball, this time from Lewis to tie the game at 15. McIntyre dropped in another bucketdown low before another three from Lewis to complete the run.Three-pointers were a common occurrence for UF early as three of its first seven madeshots from the field all were from behind the arc. For the half, Florida shot nearly 46 percent onthree-pointers (5-of-11).Fairfield was able to score five straight points to get the game back even at 20 with 6:42to go in the half, but it would be the last points the Stags scored until nearly halftime. The Gatorsbehind strong defense were able to cause a number of turnovers and went on a 14-0 run over threeminutes of play to break the game wide open. Five different Gators scored during the run to takea 34-20 lead with 3:45 to play in the half. Fairfield did score two more buckets before the first halfbuzzer, but it was the Gators who had the nice 34-24 lead at the break. Defense and a quick pacewas the key to UF taking a big lead into halftime as it caused 13 Fairfield turnovers and scored 19points off of those turnovers.Lewis led all scorers in the first frame with 10 points, followed by McIntyre, who added ineight points and was 4-of-6 from the field. As a team, Florida was 13-of-33 (39.4%) from the fieldand held Fairfield to 18 percent three-point shooting.Out of the locker room in the second half, Florida had a little trouble pulling away from theStags as the lead dropped down to as low as five points with 12:10 to go in the game, but freshmanChristin Mercer got in on the action as she drained three straight buckets for the Gators topush their lead back to double-digits at 52-42 with 8:56 to play. Mercer ended up with eight pointsin the game and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field. The five-point deficit earlier in the secondhalf was the closest Fairfield got for the remainder of the game as Florida continued to play withpressing defense and fast break scoring. As a team, UF scored 14 points on fast break and 31points off Fairfield’s 24 turnovers. For the remaining eight minutes in the game, Florida kept its leadabove double-digits as both team’s traded buckets for over three minutes. After a made layup byFairfield’s Katie Cizynski to make the score 56-46 with 6:34 to play, UF went on a big scoring spreeto end the game. 13 of the final 16 points in the game went for the Orange and Blue as the finalbuzzer sounded with the 22-point win, which was its biggest lead of the night.Game 2:Georgia State vs Florida11/11/12 1 pm ET at Gainesville, FL * O’Connell Center--------------------------------------------------------------------------------VISITORS: Georgia State 1-1TOT-FG 3-PT REBOUNDS## Player Name FG-FGA FG-FGA FT-FTA OF DE TOT PF TP A TO BLK S MIN10 Long, Kendra........ f 5-18 1-8 0-0 2 5 7 3 11 1 4 0 3 3133 Paulk, Cody......... f 4-8 0-0 1-2 6 6 12 3 9 0 0 1 1 2904 Anderson, Tiffany... g 1-3 0-0 0-0 1 6 7 1 2 3 3 0 2 2320 Nolan, Kayla........ g 5-16 0-3 3-4 2 5 7 4 13 0 4 0 0 2523 Watson, Ashley...... g 3-12 0-0 0-0 0 2 2 3 6 1 8 0 1 3002 Smith, Miranda...... 4-9 1-1 0-0 2 0 2 0 9 1 1 0 0 1312 Cole, Ashlee........ 1-2 1-2 0-0 0 2 2 2 3 2 1 1 0 1121 Jackson, Morgan..... 1-2 0-0 2-2 0 1 1 3 4 0 2 0 0 1724 Moss, Gaby.......... 0-2 0-0 2-2 0 0 0 0 2 1 3 0 1 1035 Dogo, Maryam........ 1-2 0-0 4-4 4 2 6 3 6 0 2 1 0 11TEAM................ 2 1 3Totals.............. 25-74 3-14 12-14 19 30 49 22 65 9 28 3 8 200TOTAL FG% 1st Half: 11-41 26.8% 2nd Half: 14-33 42.4% Game: 33.8% DEADB3-Pt. Sophomore Kayla Lewis added 11 pointsalong with a career-high 12 rebounds for her first double-double of her career and freshman SydneyMoss, who had 10 points for the first double-figure point outing in her young Gator career. The win was also head coach Amanda Butler’s 100th in her six seasons as the head Gator. As was the case in the season opener on Friday, Florida benefitted from scoring off turnovers,as 40 of the Gators’ 84 points were made off of the Panthers’ 28 turnovers.Scoring was hard to come by in the early part of the game when both UF and Georgia Statehad four turnovers through the first five minutes, but the Gators got things going after the first pointsof the contest came from George to give Florida the early 2-0 lead.Much like Friday’s game, the first 10 minutes of Sunday’s game came down to who had thestronger defense. Only 22 combined points were scored between the Panthers and Gators duringthat opening span, but it was Florida holding Georgia State to a mere 25 percent shooting from thefield that was the early difference. After a few traded buckets, the Orange and Blue re-built a 14-10 lead by the midway pointin the first half with four different players contributing. After Georgia State tied the game at 10 with12:06 to play in the half, Florida went on a nice 15-2 run to get to a 25-12 lead with just sevenminutes to go. During the run, freshman Christin Mercer was the big contributor scoring six of thefirst 12 points, before Bonds started to find her rhythm by draining the Gators first three-pointer ofthe night and then scoring on a nice individual effort for a fast break layup to finish off the run.GSU did cut the lead to single digits with four minutes to play in the half, but, once again,it was Bonds, who came to the rescue. Two fast break layups with the added foul and made freethrow, Bonds pushed her team’s lead to 34-21 with 2:56 to go and already had 15 points in thegame. George added three more points before half to give UF a 37-25 lead at the break.Bonds was the big scorer in the first half, dropping in 15 points and also pulling down fiverebounds to lead all Gators. George and Mercer followed with eight and six points, respectively. As a team, Florida benefitted from getting to the line as it was 10-of-15 from behind thecharity stripe and also shot a steady 45 percent from the field. The Gators kept the defense goingthrough the half when they caused 15 GSU turnovers which translated into 17 Gator points. At the start of the second half, it looked as if GSU was going to make another run at theGators after cutting the lead nine, but then 10 straight Florida points nixed the run and pushed theOrange and Blue to its largest lead of the game. Five different players scored during the 10-0 run, including freshman Chandler Cooper (Clarksville, Tenn.), who sank her first three-ball of the game. With the added 10 points, UF led GSU 47-28 with 17:22 to go.After the first media timeout of the second half, Florida continued to perform good ball distributionas freshman January Miller and junior Vicky McIntyre scored their first points of the gameand helped push the team’s lead over the 20-point mark, 51-30.The score difference didn’t change much by the midway point in the second half, but theGators continued to build on their lead by timely three-point shooting and points in the paint. By the7:35 mark in the second half, 43 of UF’s 72 points were scored in the paint, many of those pointscoming off of the Gators’ 16 steals and the fast break. For the remainder of the game the Panthers never got closer than 19 points as UF’s strongshooting continued to keep up the pace. Florida’s lead nearly broke 30 after freshman CarlieNeedles drained a three-pointer from the right wing for her first points of the game, but the largestlead stayed at 29 until the final buzzer sounded. As a team,
