1.2 Research ObjectivesThe general objective of this research is to <strong>in</strong>vestigate how <strong>in</strong>stitutionalculture affects <strong>the</strong> gender distribution of <strong>academic</strong> and adm<strong>in</strong>istrative <strong>academic</strong><strong>positions</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Universities <strong>in</strong> Nigeria.The specific objectives which are derived from this general objectives are:1. To identify <strong>the</strong> formal rules and <strong>in</strong>formal practices which <strong>in</strong>fluence <strong>the</strong>recruitment, promotion and appo<strong>in</strong>tment of <strong>women</strong> to <strong>academic</strong> andadm<strong>in</strong>istrative <strong>academic</strong> <strong>positions</strong> <strong>in</strong> Nigerian Universities.2. To exam<strong>in</strong>e how <strong>in</strong>stitutional culture <strong>in</strong>fluences <strong>the</strong> effective performanceof <strong>women</strong> hold<strong>in</strong>g <strong>academic</strong> and adm<strong>in</strong>istrative <strong>academic</strong> <strong>positions</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>work and life of <strong>the</strong> Universities.3.
