North ForrestdaleStage 2 advancedNorth Forrestdale is <strong>Armadale</strong>’s premier newresidential area, which over the next 10-20years will house around 20,000 people.Commencing in 2005, stage one exceededall market expectations with strong demandfor lots.Now the second stage <strong>of</strong> this redevelopmentis progressing, receiving Council approval torezone at its meeting on Monday 19 February.The stage two rezoning <strong>of</strong> over 100 hectaresnear the intersection <strong>of</strong> Nicholson and<strong>Armadale</strong> Roads to ‘Urban Developmentzone’ will help satisfy the high demand fornew home sites.The rezoning is currently with the Ministerfor Planning and Infrastructure, AlannahMacTiernan, for final approval prior tocommencement <strong>of</strong> detailed structureplanning, which will provide the layout <strong>of</strong>parks, schools, shops and houses.“The development <strong>of</strong> North Forrestdale atour western gateway is an exciting newchapter in the development <strong>of</strong> the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong><strong>Armadale</strong> and is evidence <strong>of</strong> a growingconfidence in <strong>Armadale</strong>’s future,” said MayorLinton Reynolds.“The rezoning <strong>of</strong> stage two will allow thecreation <strong>of</strong> about 1000 additional new homesites over the next seven years to housearound 2,500 new residents.”Mayor’s MessageI am thrilled with the success <strong>of</strong> the lively and colourfulMinnawarra Festival, and the high-calibre artworks ondisplay as part <strong>of</strong> the Minnawarra Art Award.It was fantastic to see the crowds enjoying the coolerweather during the two-day festival and for them to betreated to a variety <strong>of</strong> multi-cultural acts.COMMUNITY NEWSThe many excellent artists from around the State who exhibited in the ArtAward contributed towards spreading the word about what a great place<strong>Armadale</strong> is; this top quality exhibition is just one <strong>of</strong> many attractions that<strong>Armadale</strong> has to <strong>of</strong>fer.You will all by now be aware that <strong>Armadale</strong>’s population is set to increasequite rapidly, especially with the developments planned in Wungong/Brookdale and North Forrestdale, and this explains the high level <strong>of</strong> buildingactivity in our major town centres <strong>of</strong> <strong>Armadale</strong> and Kelmscott.Residents can now be very proud <strong>of</strong> the world class facility being developedby the state government at Champion Lakes, and I’m really looking forwardto the opening Regatta on Sunday April 29. It will attract canoeing, rowingand dragon boat enthusiasts from around WA so I encourage you all to getalong to what promises to be another high-quality, colourful event.Cr Linton Reynolds, AM JP<strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Armadale</strong> Mayor<strong>Armadale</strong>’s ‘Battle <strong>of</strong> the Brekky School Cook Off’In celebration <strong>of</strong> National Youth Week, the<strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Armadale</strong>, in partnership with theSouth Metropolitan Area Health Service,organised a ‘Battle <strong>of</strong> the Brekky SchoolCook Off’ in March amongst homeeconomics students from several localhigh schools.The competing schools includedCecil Andrews SHS, <strong>Armadale</strong> SHS,Roleystone DHS, <strong>Armadale</strong> ChristianCollege, Dale Christian College andKelmscott SHS.The students had to create a nutritiousbreakfast incorporating four challengeingredients, and present it for judging atthe <strong>Armadale</strong> <strong>City</strong> Shopping Centre onFriday 23 March. Dishes were judged onnutrition, presentation, creativity, taste anduse <strong>of</strong> challenge ingredients.Roleystone DHS took out first prize withCecil Andrews SHS coming second.Well known chef, Peter Manifis, workedwith the students to assist them preparefor the competition, and he also promotedcareers in the hospitality industry and ahealthy eating message to students.The event was sponsored by <strong>Armadale</strong><strong>City</strong> Shopping Centre, IGA, MLA, VineLeaves and Alinta Gas.
