Dr. Prem Shanker was honoured by the Doctor Ambedkar Smita Darsh Sahitya Academy;Ujjain (MP) on April 14, 1994 with the title of honour "Doctor Rahul Sankrityayan SahityaMahamaho-padhiyaya".A national award for the year 1993 was bestowed on Dr. Tuman Singh by the TranslatorsAssociation of India, New Delhi on September 23, 1994 for his PH.D thesis titled "Karyalayin Anuvad : Swarup aur Vishleshan".Research ProjectSmt. Manjulika Singh has been working on a research project for her Ph.D thesis sincejanuary 1994. The topic of her research is - "Rahul Sankrityayan Ke Darshnic Victor".Faculty Development ProgrammesDuring this period the members of the Language faculty participated in the following trainingprogrammes:-1. Smt. Alka A. Kulkarni participated in the course on Effective Communication Skillsheld at the Academy from 11 th to 15 th July, 1994; and2. Dr. Manjushree Roy participated in the course on Effective Communication Skillsheld at the Aacademy from 5 th to 9 th December, 1994.2.8 Faculty of Computers and Information SystemNICTU has seen some changes in its faculty; one System Analyst was transferred and threefresh programmers joined. The faculty now has two Principal Systems Analysts, One SeniorSystem Analyst, one System analyst, one System Engineer, three Programmers and oneProgrammer Assistant. There have been changes internally as well-One Senior SystemsAnalyst was promoted to Principal System Analyst.Shri J. Ramakrishnan was transferred to Delhi in May, 1994 and Shri Goutam Mukherjee waspromoted to Principal Systems Analyst. (iii)Shri Pankaj AgrawalNewly Introduced HardwareThe NICTU Training laboratory is equipped with 38 personal computers model XT and five80386 based ATs. The machines act as standalone DOS stations for DOS based trainingsessions and the XTs act as terminals in XENIX based training sessions. NICTU is alsoconnected to NICNET via the satellite link; one NICNET terminal is provided in thecomputer training laboratory and the other in a NICTU office. For its internal use NICTUalso possess a 486 machine with UNIX operating system.This year faculty members have been provided 486 connectivity in their offices with GISTterminals. One additional node is also given to Management Faculty on request. NIC-UNIXinstallation is also underway in order to provide homogeneity for multiuser systems.Courses Conducted During The Year2.8.5. NICTU designs and conducts training modules in the training programme of theAcademy. It also integrates its inputs with other modules. This is true of the courses for theofficer trainees as well as senior officers.Changes In Training MethodologyThe problems identified during the preceding courses for the Officer- Trainees (OTs) wererefined to address specific areas in the use of computers. The fact that OTs showed the samekeen interest and involvement during these sessions is ample testimony to this methodologyhaving been well received among the trainees.The emphasis of the training in the computer modules have always been to allow participantsto have more hands-on experience. To this end, time allotted by way of regular sessions isaugmented by keeping the computer lab open till late-night.
