POSITION:RESPONSIBLE TO:RESPONSIBLE FOR:ACCOUNTING MANAGERCHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICERACCOUNTANTASSISTANT ACCOUNTANTACCOUNTS OFFICERSTOCK ADMINISTRATORINCUMBENT:JOB PURPOSE:The Accounting Manager’s primary duty is <strong>to</strong> ensure the timely and accuratecompletion of the monthly and annual accounts of <strong>Moonee</strong> <strong>Valley</strong> <strong>Racing</strong> <strong>Club</strong> and <strong>to</strong>oversee the day-<strong>to</strong>-day operations of the Finance Department. This includesresponsibility for ensuring the Finance department is well managed and all <strong>Club</strong>budgets, financial operating procedures, and external compliance obligations areadhered <strong>to</strong>.The incumbent will demonstrate commitment <strong>to</strong> MVRC’s Values which are Cus<strong>to</strong>mer-Focus, Continuous Improvement, Innovation & Learning and Financially Responsible.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Reporting and Planning1. Facilitate sound financial planning and control by reporting accurately, and ona timely basis, the financial position of the <strong>Club</strong>.2. Provide relevant MVRC departments with appropriate Management Reportsin order <strong>to</strong> facilitate sound decision-making.3. Provide effective analysis of results for Senior Management.4. In conjunction with the CFO, ensure efficient control of the <strong>Club</strong>’s cash flowand maximise returns from excess funds within the <strong>Club</strong>’s investment policyand risk profile.5. Ensure timely completion of monthly reporting <strong>to</strong> the <strong>Club</strong>’s Finance Sub-Committee. Attend monthly Finance Sub Committee meetings and compileand distribute minutes of these meetings <strong>to</strong> attendees.


6. Assist with the monthly reporting <strong>to</strong> Senior Managers and Committee onbusiness plan deliverables using KPI’s developed and agreed by the FinanceSub Committee.7. Moni<strong>to</strong>r actual trading performances against budget targets in all areas, assistManagers with interpretation of variances, and forward comments <strong>to</strong> theFinance Sub Committee as necessary.8. Liaise with the external audi<strong>to</strong>r <strong>to</strong> ensure that financial procedures areconsistent with club policies and statu<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>accounting</strong> standards and that thequarterly gaming reviews and annual audit are completed satisfac<strong>to</strong>rily9. Ensure completion of annual statu<strong>to</strong>ry accounts <strong>to</strong> review stage, includingcash flow statements, prior <strong>to</strong> commencement of external audit.10. Maintain <strong>accounting</strong> records <strong>to</strong> legal and <strong>Club</strong> requirements by developingand maintaining suitable systems and internal controls.11. Prepare annual operating and capital budgets and 5-year forecasts, based onthe agreed strategies of the <strong>Club</strong>.Procedural12. Assume all responsibilities of Great Plains ‘Super User’ role13. Ensure external compliance obligations for GST and FBT are met accuratelyand within required timeframes.People Management14. Ensure the efficient & effective performance of the <strong>Club</strong>’s Finance departmentby implementing staff training & development plans for all staff under this areaof control.15. Work closely with other members of the Finance team <strong>to</strong> enable completion ofeach other’s job tasks in the event of any leave. Ensure that this leavecoverage of job tasks extends <strong>to</strong> all subordinate staff.16. Ensure effective communication within the Finance team <strong>to</strong> ensure that alltasks are completed as efficiently as possible with the appropriate levels ofsupervision and direction.17. Responsible for the implementation and management of the <strong>Club</strong>'s OH & SPolicy, for the safety and health of staff reporting <strong>to</strong> or supervised by thisposition and their compliance with the OH & S procedures (refer <strong>to</strong> OH & Smanual)18. Other tasks from time <strong>to</strong> time as determined by the CFO


KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS REQUIRED:(To effectively perform in the role the position holder must have the following skills,experience, qualifications):• Recognised accountancy qualification, with CPA or CA professionalmembership• At least 8 years experience in a senior financial role• Experience in managing and leading a team in a financial management field• Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with projectmanagement capabilities• Strong understanding of internal control and business process designconcepts• High–end IT skillsKEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)1. Timely and accurate completion of monthly accounts in accordance withFinance Timetable.2. Annual accounts audit file completed in accordance with quality and timingrequirements of external audi<strong>to</strong>rs3. Annual statu<strong>to</strong>ry accounts completed <strong>to</strong> the satisfaction of external audi<strong>to</strong>rsand CFO, within required timeframes4. Coordinate quarterly review of Balance Sheet reconciliation file in accordancewith Finance Timetable.5. Management reports:• Distributed by the Working Day 10 of the following month• Format of reporting package reviewed regularly with CFO and seniormanagement team <strong>to</strong> ensure ongoing satisfaction.6. Completion, approval and upload of annual operating and capital budget inaccordance with Budget Timetable7. Coordination of external audit process:• Completion of annual external audit with no major, and minimal minor,controllable audit review items.8.
