Use a two column format, with the title and author information centered across bothcolumns on the first page, staying within the designatedimage area. Illustrations and figures may also span bothcolumns. Dimensions for the paper are specified in thistext.1. THE <strong>CONFERENCE</strong> <strong>PAPER</strong>The NORSIG-99 Proceedings will be printed byphoto-offset from the submitted file prepared by you. Nochanges will be possible after submission of your manuscript. You must use the double column style specified. Please adhere to the style guidelines below to allow us tomaintain uniformity in the final printed copy of the NOR-SIG-99 Proceedings.1.1 General InstructionsYou should submit up to six (6) A4-size pages that will beprinted exactly as received, without any reduction.Detailed size specifications for the layout are givenbelow. Papers longer than 6 pages will not be printed. All text should be written in English, which is theofficial language of the NORSIG-99 proceedings.1.1.1 SubmissionThe preferred submission of the final paper is by email asan attached PDF or PostScript file to:myrvoll@tele.ntnu.no.Please specify the title in the mail text. Name the attachedfile like this:YourName.ps (e.g. randen.ps)1.1.2 DeadlineThe deadline for the submission of the final paper isAugust 9, 1999. Submissions received later than thedeadline cannot be guaranteed for inclusion in the NOR-SIG-99 Proceedings.1.2 Style GuidelinesManuscripts must be single space, in the specified twocolumn format. All text should be in Times Roman or equivalentfont, and the main text should have a font-size of 10points.1.2.1 Paper TitleThe paper title should be in 12-point boldface capital letters, centered across the top of the two columns on thefirst page as indicated above.1.2.2 Author’s Name(s)The author’s name(s) and affiliations(s) appear below thetitle in 12-point capital and lower case letters. Examples of the various levelsof headings are included in this sample paper.1.2.5 AbbreviationsDefine abbreviations and acronyms the first time they areused in the text, for example like this: This paper discussesfinite impulse response (FIR) filters1.2.6 EquationsThe equations must be centered with respect to the column.Number equations consecutively with equationnumbers in parentheses flush with the right margin of thecolumn, as in (1). Define all the symbols in your equationsbefore or immediately after the equation. Here is anexample. The frequency response of an Nth-order FIR filtercan be expressed asNH( e jω ) = ∑ hn ( )e – jωnT (1)n = 0where h(n), for n = 0, 1, 2, ..., N, are the coefficients ofthe FIR filter, ω = 2πf is the angular frequency, and Tis the sampling interval.Use the same letter size in equations as in the normaltext. Note that a longer dash (–) rather than a hyphen (-)should be used for a minus sign, if possible1.2.7 ReferencesThere are many different styles for writing a list of refer-

We use the convention of publications of the IEEE.Note that the IEEE referencing style is quite differentfrom that used by most scientific journals or standards.List and number all references at the end of thepaper. Give all authors’ names. Do not use et al. in thereference list unless there are more than six authors. Capitalizeonly the first letter of the first word in a paper title.Number the references in the order they first appear in thetext. When referring to them in the text, type the correspondingreference number in square brackets, like here[1].Examples of how to refer to a book [1], a journalpaper [2], or a conference paper [3] are given in the referencelist of this sample paper.1.2.8 IllustrationsIllustrations must appear within the designated margins, and must be part of the submitted paper. They may spantwo columns. If possible, position illustrations at the topsof columns, rather than the middle or at the bottom. Allillustrations must be captioned and numbered consecutively,in the order they first appear in the text, using Arabicnumerals. Remember to use the term ``Figure N’’ inboth the caption and when it is referred in the main text,e.g. Figure 1.1.2.9 TablesAll tables must be captioned and numbered consecutively,in the order they first appear in the text, using Arabicnumerals. Remember to use the term ``Table N’’ inboth the caption and when it is referred in the main text.1.3 Layout SpecificationsAll manuscripts must be single spaced, in the specifiedtwo column format. The space between the two columnsis 8 mm. The columns is 81 mm. wide each. The heightof text columns (from top to bottom margin) is 237 mmleaving a top margin of 25 mm and a bottom margin of35 mm for A4 paper.Text or illustrations should not span to the margin.Do not make any marks (e.g., page numbers or a header)on the margins of your paper.Since the columns of the paper are quite narrow, it isrecommended to hyphenate the text. This is most easilydone by using an automatic hyphenation feature of someword processing software. The final page numbers will be assigned and printedlater by the publisher.REFERENCES
