The occasion gains addedsignificance in that it affords us all here assembled,belonging to different faiths and strataof society-to bring together whom youhave done so much--an opportunity to publiclyfelicitate and grect Thee on the triumphantcompletion of Thy Third World Tourwhich, with the two preceding it, has broughtabout a welcome transformation in humanthought and endeavour.In the present fragmented world where amad lust for domination, mutual bickeringsand dissensions have made the situation sofissionable and the holooawt of thermonuclearwar threatens the very annihilation ofmankind, Thou art a great solace to all, revealingthe divinity of soul and kindling in usthe fond desire for love and unity. Indeed, wegreet in Thee. 0 Holy Saint, a living embodimentof the highest traditions of nobility andmagnanimity, self-purification, simplicity andservice of mankind. Besides, Thy deep andwide love which envelops all men of all creedsand which represents the quintessence of thebest doctrines and philosophies.Ruhani Satsang, which has grown into a20world centre of spiritual effulgence and theManav Kendra are among the best institutionsworking for bringing about harmony amongdifferent cultures and understanding environmentalneeds for man's spiritual growth. Thehopes and wishes of our worthy Prime Minister,Shrimati Indira Gandhi, who in her messagewished "this exciting Project to becomea centre of light and peace" are finding theirfruition in the tremendous work being done atthe Kendra.The Kendra does not impart the empty anddreary education of textbooks which bringsdissociation of head and heart; it rather imprintson the mind of every inquisitor that theend of knowledge is service. We know that aman may read a thousand textbooks, yet beno better than a boor; so herein lies the needfor institutions like Ruhani Satsang and ManavKendra. Perhaps when Al-Gh,azali, a manof scholarship and meditation, said that"knowledge without action is insanity, andthe noblest action is service"; and when ShilBhadra, the head of Nalanda University, repliedto Huen Tsang's question, "What isknowledge?" that, "Knowledge is perceptionof the principles or laws of life, and the bestprinciple of life is fellow-feeling, sharing withothers what you have," they had such institutionsas Ruhani Satsang and Manav Kendra inmind. Very aptly did our respected Rastrapati,Dr. V. V.
