I +THE MASTER'S TALK(Continued from page 11)have not seen Him, how can you sayanything? It is not a matter of onlyspeaking, you see, giving long or talltalks.Naturally, prayer arises from the failuresof our own efforts-when all humanefforts fail, there prayer succeeds. We pray to whom? A weak man prays toa strong man, or to God: "0 God, weare helpless, we are stuck fast in thisprisonhouse of the man body. How canwe come out? It is locked on all sides.0 God, send us some man who can takeus out of the box of the man body!" Thisis what Maulana Rumi, Swami Ji, GuruNanak, and all other Masters pray.Someone asked Guru Amar Das, "Howcan you say what your outgoing facultiesare?" He said, "Sit down and see." Sitdown and see how your outgoing facultiesare working. Then what happens? When your attention is withdrawn fromoutside, the body for all practical purposesis dead; you have got no feelingin the body. When you rise above thatphysical level, you see the Light of God.If this is something you can do yourself, welcome you are; what more iswanted? Or go to the Masters, aboutwhom we speak so much; if they can doit, well and good. That is why I havesaid, that a spiritual revolution is required;not at the level of body, but atthe level of the evil propensities whichhave taken you away from God. Nowspringtime has come; the times havechanged. The first thing required is aGuru or Master who has seen; who hasseen and can make us see. Guru meansthe "light sprouts forth out of the mostbleak darkness." That is the elementarycriterion of a Master-not a lot ofwords: "you are not ready, you must beready," this and that thing. In the olddays, it was done like that; now timeshave changed. Who can sit at the feetof the Master for years? So they giveyou something to start with. Now maintainit: Take heed that the light withinyou is not darkness. So the first thing required is a Guruor Master? What is a Guru? Word madeflesh is called a Guru; God has manifestedHimself in a man body and calledhim a Guru. We respect him. The powerhouse works through a bulb; there islight. But the power house can onlywork through a bulb which is not fused, you see. We respect the bulb, of course;but when it is fused, then another bulbis put on. That light coming through isthe God Power, called the Master Poweror Christ Power; that never dies, it goeson working from pole to pole to guidethe child Humanity back to God. Thisis one thing that is required. It is said,Zj you want to see God, go to somebodywho has seen God. He who has not seenGod, how can he let you see? So nowyou see what is meant by "Master" orGuru as compared with the other teachersof the world, for whom we have respectas they teach us something of theouter world. How respectful and gratefulshould we be to such a man who givesus this!SAT SANDESH
Once it happened with our Master, you see-There was a Christian missionaryat his place, Beas, who came tohim and asked, "Look here, who isgreater-Christ or your guru?" He verypolitely replied, "Look here, I have seenmy Guru; I have not seen Christ. If youmake him appear to me, I will meet withhim too!" So these bodies leave; but thatPower does not leave, that continues. There is food for the hungry and waterfor the thirsty; demand and supply is alaw of Nature. The child which was borna thousand years back, a hundred yearsback, or now-God made arrangementfor milk in the mother before birth;don't you think that will continue further? This is the law of Nature, you see,God's law.The Master is the first thing required;second thing is true living. Ethical lifeis a stepping stone to spirituality. Truthis above all and true living is still aboveTruth. We are all brothers and sisters inGod--drops of the ocean of all consciousness;no high, no low; and thatPower whom we worship controls us inthe body. Don't have any hatred becauseyou are a man of position, because youare a learned man, because you are arich man. All are equal. Some are standingat the table; some are sitting in thechair; that is due to the reaction of pastkarmas. Then comes chastity of thought. Thatdefiles the whole body. You cannot expectGod to manifest in a body that isfull of filth. Then comes violence inword, deed, and thought. All this filthcomes through the mind which defilesthe man body. Blessed are the pure inheart for they shall see God. You cannotexpect God to manifest in a filthy home.He is there already; but He won't manifest. If a bulb is there with light withinit, but it is covered over with blackMarch 1973
