<strong>Graduate</strong> AssistantshipsEach year BJU awards graduate assistantships tooutstanding students who wish to pursue a graduatedegree or a second undergraduate degree. An assistantshipruns for two years and yields a competitivewage that allows the assistant to pay a special rate forroom, board and tuition, while leaving a cash stipendeach month. The tuition covers an academic load of6ñ10* semester hours during the work agreement.Teaching and residence hall graduate assistantshipswork/teach half-time for four semesters on a9-month basis. Work/teaching duties are assigned bythe Director of Educational Services. The agreementbegins during the month of August.Staff graduate assistantships work 28 hours duringfour semesters and 40 hours during two completesummers on a 12-month basis with a maximum of 10non-paid working days off per year.* Specific dutiesare assigned by the department manager.*International student requirements will differ.While the majority of these assistantships areawarded to <strong>Bob</strong> <strong>Jones</strong> <strong>University</strong> graduates, a few aregiven to other graduate applicants of outstandingmerit. For more information, contact the BJU HumanResource department.Admissions InformationTransfer Credit RegulationsThe regulations governing the transfer of creditsearned in other institutions are as follows:1. It is the policy of BJU to consider for transfer,credits earned in a regular college or university orother institutions of collegiate level. The accreditationstatus of the other institutions will be a factorin transfer credit decisions, but it will not bethe sole or primary factor.2. Only those credits which carry a grade of at leastB at the graduate level may be transferred (nogrades of C, D, F or P).3. Courses acceptable for transfer must be substantiallyin line with the course of study offered by<strong>Bob</strong> <strong>Jones</strong> <strong>University</strong>, and must serve a useful purposein the particular curriculum which the studentproposes to follow. A course to be acceptedneed not be identical with a course offered at <strong>Bob</strong><strong>Jones</strong> <strong>University</strong>, but it must be a course, even as ageneral elective, which is in line with the requirementsas defined in this catalog.4. In transferring credits, all evaluations are made interms of courses as they appear in the universitycatalog. Though the original course titles areretained, the student’s transfer record will showthe course number as it appears in the <strong>Bob</strong> <strong>Jones</strong><strong>University</strong> catalog. Transfer courses for whichthere exist no parallel courses in this institutionbut which are acceptable for transfer will beassigned the proper departmental classification.5. BJU does not accept in transfer any workdone at the graduate level by correspondence.Undergraduate deficiencies may, however, beremoved through correspondence work atapproved schools.6. BJU does not accept in transfer any graduatecourses offered by an institution that does notgrant graduate degrees.7. BJU does not accept in transfer for graduate creditany undergraduate courses taken at another institutioneven if the offering institution accepts thecourse work as graduate-level work.8. A unit of credit at <strong>Bob</strong> <strong>Jones</strong> <strong>University</strong> is asemester hour. Quarter hours are transposed intosemester hours at the ratio of three to two; that is,three quarter hours equal two semester hours. Nofractional credits are recorded, and course creditsof a fragmentary nature are disallowed.Transfer credit is limited to a maximum of sixsemester hours for the Master of Arts, Master ofMusic, Master of Arts in Teaching, Master of Science,Master of Education, Master of Ministry and Doctorof Ministry degrees. Up to a maximum of 30 semesterhours of work taken beyond the Master of Arts degreemay be transferred into the Doctor of PastoralTheology program. Up to a maximum of 48 semesterhours may be transferred into the Master of Divinitydegree program. A maximum of 45 semester hoursmay be transferred into the Doctor of Education andthe Doctor of Philosophy degree programs. It isunderstood that students transferring in substantialcredits at the graduate level will not normally takeadditional work in transfer once they are acceptedinto a graduate program at <strong>Bob</strong> <strong>Jones</strong> <strong>University</strong>. Agraduate student’s transfer work is not calculated intohis or her grade point average.All work taken at other institutions for transferinto a degree program at <strong>Bob</strong> <strong>Jones</strong> <strong>University</strong> oncethe student has been accepted into a graduate programmust be approved by the registrar in advance. Insuch circumstances, the amount of credit to be takenelsewhere will be limited. Moreover, the student isexpected to complete his final semester of coursework in residence at <strong>Bob</strong> <strong>Jones</strong> <strong>University</strong>.17
