As part of the curriculum, great emphasis isgiven to personal and spiritual development.Two certificate programs are offered providingopportunities for advanced studies in Bible and medicalmissions. These programs are designed for thosewhose preparation at the undergraduate level is not inreligion and who desire undergraduate and graduatetraining in religion prior to entering a vocation or asa medical missionary.The Division of Professional Ministry Studiesoffers the Master of Ministry, Specialist in Ministry,Doctor of Pastoral Theology, Master of Divinity andthe Doctor of Ministry degrees. These programs provideemphasis on ministry philosophy and practicefor those who are preparing for the ministry or whohave spent time in the pastorate or on the missionfield.The Division of <strong>Graduate</strong> Studies offers eightMasters of Arts degrees (Bible, Bible Translation,Teaching Bible, Theology, Church Ministries, YouthMinistries, Pastoral Studies and Church History) andfour Master of Divinity degrees. The Doctor ofPhilosophy degree in Church History, Old TestamentIntroduction, New Testament Introduction andTheology are also offered and provide opportunitiesfor advanced study in religion for those who wish toteach on the college or seminary level or engage in aministry of research and writing.The School of Fine ArtsThe basic courses are designed to develop talent,critical perception and appreciation in the fields ofart, music, speech communication, cinema and videoproduction, and radio and television broadcasting.Students develop their special talents in a Christianatmosphere in preparation for:1. A full-time ministry in music, speech,cinema and video production or art.2. The teaching of music, speech, cinema and videoproduction or art.3. A career in communication–in business or inradio television/film.4. A career in visual communication–in graphicAcademic Informationdesign, advertising, illustration and commercialart.5. The production of Christian motion pictures.The Division of Art provides well-rounded trainingfor the prospective commercial artist or studioartist with intensive work in such fields as drawing,painting, ceramics and graphic design.In the Division of Music, emphasis is given to thetraining of church music directors, teachers, composersand conductors.In the Division of Speech Communication, thebroad emphasis ranges from communication studiesto performance courses in public speaking, performancestudies and dramatic production.The Division of Film, Video and Broadcastingoffers professional training in all phases of radio, television,and motion picture production and providesactual experience through the facilities of WBJU andUnusual Films.A candidate for an undergraduate degree with amajor in one of the departments of the School of FineArts is required to give a public recital or exhibitionor to complete an approved special project at anassigned time during his senior year.Advanced study is also provided in art, music,speech communication, cinema and video production,and radio and television broadcasting. A candidatefor a graduate degree is required to give a publicrecital or exhibition or to complete an approved specialproject at an assigned time during his program.The School of EducationThe many undergraduate and graduate programsin the School of Education are designed for studentswho wish to become teachers, recreation workers,administrators, supervisors, or counselors in elementaryand secondary schools. A student with these primarygoals should enroll in the School of Education.The undergraduate and graduate majors in counselingprepare students for ministries as counselors ina variety of Christian settings. The counseling programsare not designed to satisfy government or privateagency certification or licensing requirements.Students desiring to meet certification requirementsfor the State of South Carolina must have a 2.5grade point average and meet the prescribed requirementsof the state including practical work anddirected teaching. Students who desire certificationthrough the American Association of ChristianSchools or the Association of Christian Schools Internationalmay elect to do their directed teaching in aChristian school and are required to have a 2.5 gradepoint average. All students desiring to achieve a teachingdegree from the School of Education must qualifyas candidates by passing the appropriate Praxis I27
